Tvheadend crashing my raspberry pi
Added by Stefan Schreffler almost 10 years ago
Hello, super-noob here.
Any time I have the tvheadend service running it seems to crash my system. Once I restart and I check the syslog, the last thing printed to the log before the crash is ALWAYS "tvheadend2338: epggrab: module xmltv created" (with a different pid of course). I have tvheadend installed on a Raspberry Pi 2 B+ running Raspbian, and using a Hauppauge HVR950Q usb tuner. For what it's worth, I set everything up using this blog post: http://freezerdev.blogspot.com/2014/10/raspberry-pi-dvr-tvheadend.html.
I really appreciate any help you guys can give me. I haven't been able to find anything in the forum or elsewhere.
Thanks

I'm having the same issue with the Raspberry Pi 2.
I'm building from source and it keeps crashing.

My Pi kept crashing with raspbian and USB TV tuner.
Fixed it by putting the USB tuner on a powered USB hub.
Seems that the USB tuner was drawing too much power.

Yeah, my tuner is on a powered hub, so that's not the issue I'm having. Wish it were that simple.

FWIW, OpenELEC and TVH working flawlessly on my RPi2 with no powered hub although it took some time to find out how to add TVH. I can't test TVH under Raspian because the kernel doesn't support my August T210 and I'm not clever enough to re-compile media_build Wondering whether just copying some files across from the OE card to the Raspian one will fix it.
It's Kodi I have trouble with under Raspian - on exit it just shuts the Pi down rather than going back to a desktop or even a command prompt. Don't know if that's related to your issue.

also I've fixed all my issues.

Apparently all it took for me to keep things stable was to disable idle scan. Crazy. So far I'm able to record programs and watch them with VLC with great results. Live TV is a bit more hit or miss, but that seems to be more of a VLC issue. Either way it works and I'm happy!
