Can not select PCTV 292e in TVHeadend adapter config
Added by Jon Manning almost 10 years ago
I have got a PCTV 292e USB.
I am running RaspBMC and Kodi on a Pi.
I have checked in the command prompt with lsusb output=Bus 002 Device 003: ID 2013:025f PCTV Systems
It looks as though it is loaded etc but when I log into TVHeadend with my IP address:9981 and can not select the adapter in the drop down bit.
Has anyone found how to make a PCTV 292e Tuner to work in RaspBMC with Kodi on a Pi?

Look at the output of dmesg and check v4l loaded the driver.
What kernel do you use?
I have one of these, but haven't started using it properly yet. I so far only did a quick test with wscan.
I needed to get some firmware files (and IIRC renamed one of them) - but then I use Linux from scratch, maybe your distro sorts these things for you :-)

I am running kernel: Linux 3.12.31
I will check over the weekend if v4l loaded the driver. I'm quite new to Linux so I will have to study dmseg output for any signs of loading. If you have any suggestions on what I should be looking out for I'd be grateful to hear them.
If you manage to get PCTV working, would you be so kind as to share with me how you did it? There is very limited information on making PCTV 292e work with TVHeadend. I'm starting to think if I waited for a year or so there may be better support.

Unless your distro patched support into the kernel you need at least 3.16
Booting first then plugging the 292e will make the interesting messages appear at the end of the dmesg output.
I just booted my not yet in service box and plugged the stick and it looked like -

I don't think that this guarantees working yet as when something actually tries to use it, the f/w loads.
This bit may look different for you as IIRC I renamed a file to make it work first time (Memory failing but I think it did work without that - but logged a failed load, then tried something else).
Start tvh ....
[ 960.564615] si2168 9-0064: si2168: found a 'Silicon Labs Si2168' in cold state
[ 960.580388] si2168 9-0064: si2168: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-demod-si2168-02.fw'

[ 960.752930] usb 1-1.2: DVB: adapter 0 frontend 0 frequency 0 out of range (110000000..862000000)
Then in tvh config it shows as Silicon Labs Si2168
I didn't go any further with tvh yet as where the box is currently it doesn't have an RF feed.
As for the firmwares just for the record here's what I have - you can see I just copied one of them to a different name - though given my 292e isn't actually in use yet I can't say how good an idea this was :-) and it was October when I did it, so I don't know what's about or what it's called now.
