Add DVB Network - doesn't
Added by Bob Rollins about 10 years ago
What does it mean when "Add DVB Network" does nothing?
I've got Geexbox 3.1 (geexbox-devel-20141023-r9162dc6.cuboxi) on a Cubox-i2. This includes tvheadend 0.0.0. TVheadend
HTSP client (v1.9.27) is enabled as PVR client. I'm using a Hauppauge Win-TV-HVR-950Q and I've loaded the firmware (dvb-fe-
xc5000c-4.1.30.7.fw) into /firmware. TVH gui (192.168.1.13:9981) shows the tuner as Auvitek AU8522 QAM/8VSB Frontend. It
seems to save the adapter configuration OK. When I choose Add DVB Network by location and choose
us_ATSC_center_frequencies_8VSB and Add DVB network, nothing seems to happen. No muxes appear. The Information and
capabilities shows:
Hardware
Device path:
/dev/dvb/adapter0
Device name:
Auvitek AU8522 QAM/8VSB Frontend
Host connection:
USB (480 Mbit/s)
Frequency range:
54000 kHz - 858000 kHz, in steps of 62 kHz
Status
Currently tuned to:
Services:
0
Muxes:
0
Muxes awaiting initial scan:
0
Signal Strength:
0%
Bit Error Rate:
0/s
Uncorrected Bit Errors:
0/s
The system log doesn't show any actions from the adapter configuration. I've checked the tuner input and it is receiving normal
broadcast signals just fine.
This is particularly frustrating as the tuner (and Live TV) were working just fine on a previous installation. When I started with a new dev build of Geexbox, the rest of the set up worked just fine. All the hardware, peripherals, antenna wiring, etc are exactly the same.
I'm sure it is something embarrassingly simple that I have forgotten or didn't note from the previous installation. I'd appreciate ANY suggestions. Would copying any configuration files from the previous installation help?

Is the tuner enabled...?
EDIT
That'll come across as a bit facetious, it's not meant to be. I merely suspect that new adapters aren't enabled by default.
Perhaps a screenshot of the config details above would help, we can see all of the details then - sounds like you're on 3.4.something, and a lot has changed since then.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
Attached is a snapshot of the configuration screen. Do I need to do something to enable the tuner beyond check the enable box? I see that a number of posts show the device path as: /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 . Is that difference significant?

Hmmm. My suspicion moves to the mux definitions - nothing appears when you select things? Is tvheadend able to save its configuration, as muxes should be added even if they're wrong...?
I've also no idea what 0.0.0 is as a version, that makes me raise an eyebrow if nothing else, but it might be nothing - it does suggest some dubious packaging, though.
Also, a quick look at the GeeXboX forum turned up some issues with timing - try either restarting tvheadend, or delaying its start initially. At least then you'll know that your adapter is properly up and running before you start asking it to do anything.

Attached is the Add Muxes screen. When atsc_center_frequencies is selected, and I click Add DVB Network, nothing happens. Would that indicate that the list of muxes is empty?
How can I restart tvheadend while XBMC is running?

RE: Add DVB Network - doesn't - Added by Prof Yaffle about 10 years ago
This all sounds more like a Geexbox issue than tvheadend per se, I'm afraid. Why it won't add the muxes... we'd need someone with a similar version of tvh (0.0.0 suggests they've been modifying it) and US ASTC frequencies to see if it can be replicated. I suppose you could switch on debugging (click the double up arrow in the bottom right, then the cog) to see if tvh logs anything.
Restarting tvh seems to be "systemctl stop tvheadend / systemctl start tvheadend" - again, though, it's platform-specific.

I'm new to tvheadend. I have the same problem as Bob. I add DVB Network, choose my muxes file and nothing happens. I already tried another muxes file, but again nothing happens. The log at the bottom is empty (it only shows something, if I change the adapter configuration and press save).
What should I do?
Greetings

Marc Hinz - same platform, or a different hardware/OS?
Version of tvheadend?
Have you enabled the tuner? Are the mux frequencies correct for your location/provider?
There are many thing that could be the problem - a screen shot of that page would help - but we'll need a little more information... unless your problem is identical to the OP's, in which case we'll need an update from him given the Geexbox-specifics.

The tuner is enabled in tvheadend web interface, see screenshot attached. The interface does not load any mux frequencies when I try to add a DVB Network (the screenshot was taken after trying to add a DVB Network).
Any ideas?
And many thanks in advance!

RE: Add DVB Network - doesn't - Added by Prof Yaffle almost 10 years ago
Can you look up the mux frequencies and add them manually at all? 3.4 had recurring problems with out-of-date mux information as most of the planet was in the middle of digital switch-over... while the database should now be stable, I don't know if that version references the latest available information or whether it came with a static (and thus out-of-date) snapshot.
RE: Add DVB Network - doesn't - Added by Marc Blumentritt almost 10 years ago
@ Prof Yaffle: I added today all mux frequencies manually. Now I have all services. Still d'ont know, why automatic adding via dialog did not work. I rebuild the package without changes...
Anyway, now it is working
Thanks
Marc
