Testing Tvheadend with V4L VIVI test driver.
Added by Fred Clausen about 10 years ago
Hello All,
I am looking to use Tvheadend with XBMC to watch live TV on our projector. Before I invest in an actual USB capture device I'd like to see if the various dependent systems will work together (Pi, Synology NAS, Wifi speeds, etc).
The VIVI1 test suite seems ideal for this purpose. When I load the driver the /dev/video0 device is created as expected (and works) however Tvheadend does not see it as a "TV Adaptor". Is there any way I can do a dry run with this "capture card"?
Thanks,
Fred.

IIUC VIVI appears as an analogue adapter so will NOT work with newer versions of Tvheadend as the underlying code that supports analogue has been removed, however older versions 3.4/3.5 still have that code.
So if you're looking at having analogue input you need to use an older version.
No DVB/ATSC or even IPTV available?

Thanks for the info! We do have DVB here but before taking the plunge I was going to test it via software only. However, after much research, I found an adapter1 that will work so I've ordered that and will use TVheadend as intended.
Cheers,
Fred.
