Hauppage 2250 + Ubuntu 13.04

Added by Anonymous over 10 years ago

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a little bit of help with setting tvheadend up. I have installed the firmware for the Hauppage 2250 in my Ubuntu 13.04 server. I've installed tvheadend and it registers 2 Samsung and 2 Hauppage 2250 cards under the configuration/DVB inputs menu. The Samsung ones are the only ones that have a configuration tab. I've set my DVB network to Standard Cable since this is what I'm am looking to pick up (through coaxial cable). I let it do its initial scan and it picks up 50 Services out of 350 or so muxes. My question is how do i play these channels. Also, my program guide does not work automatically as it is supposed to i believe...

Thanks,

Peter

Have you mapped the services to channels? Once all muxes are scanned, you should be able to map them over (how depends on what version of tvheadend you're using). And once you have channels, you can tune to them through VLC or XBMC - or, indeed, watch them through the web interface.

When i press map services it doesn't seem to do anything. As far as playing a channel, am i supposed to play through the channel guide or press play under services?

Depending on what version of tvh you're running (I simply can't remember the old version, I'm afraid), there should be a Watch TV button in the top-right of the EPG tab. If you press that, it will launch the VLC plugin and allow you to select a channel.

You can also list the channels in the Configuration screen and launch a specific channel from there. Again, it needs the VLC plugin to work.

Having said all that, when I've tried in the past I've had various problems on various browsers. So, I just tested on my Win8 PC, and noticed:

1. Full-screen Chrome just gives up - presumably, some problem in handing over the stream to VLC, or running the plugin fullscreen, and

2. Internet Explorer won't even open all of the WebUI tabs, complaining in the JS Console about various errors that the other browsers don't mind, and

3. Firefox works, but I have problems processing the MIME type. If I just click "play", it tries to download the stream, which - of course - takes forever. However, if I copy the Play hyperlink and paste in into VLC as Media / Open Network Stream than it works okay. So it's a config issue on my PC, which isn't helping you...!

I only ever watch live TV streaming into XBMC, though, so I've never really tried these.
