Hauppauge 2250 Help!
Added by Casey Egger almost 11 years ago
I have struggled to find a way to make this tv card work. I have the correct drivers and firmware and the tuner is kernel supported. My system is Openelec Fusion 3.2.4. I am at a loss. Googled for literally days and am no closer to a solution. The tuner is "inactive" but it is listed. The frontend is listed as dvb but I believe these are just chips. AAANy help would be really appreciated. I have attached some screenshots of whats going on.

By no means an expert here, just some more interested Googling...
1. Have you tried it on a standalone 'buntu or some other system? I wonder if it's an issue with firmware as bundled with OE:

2. Have you tried stopping and restarting tvheadend? It may be a timing issue if the tuner is initialising slowly.
3. Are you looking at the right tuners? I've never seen a /dev/videoX device on my tvheadend systems - only ever /dev/dvb/adapterX. Are the Samsung tuners listed genuinely different tuners, or is the card presenting multiple faces to the OS? If the Samsung chips are in the 2250, can you get services/channels on those? I wonder if the /dev/video devices are analogue, or some other input that tvheadend doesn't like even if the OS is okay with them - but it could be an ASTC artefact as well.

PS I also noticed this thread, which may be of interest:

It would at least give some clues.

First of all, thank you for your input and clues. I found that there are possibly two firmwares that need to be in the /lib/firmware folder:
v4l-saa7164-1.0.2-3.fw
v4l-saa7164-1.0.3-3.fw
There is also an option to add a file to the /etc/modprobe.d which I can try. The funny thing is that my dmesg seems to be correct as far as the adapter loading is concerned.
You are correct as far as the samsung tuners go. They are not tuners but are faces to the OS; they do not pick up a signal but they are listed like the 2250 should be listed as a /dev/dvb. I have gone through the timing issue. In the tvheadend service I selected to "wait for frontend" and "wait for adapters" 2. Ill keep digging tonight. If I find a fix I will post it for sure. This is very frustrating.
Thanks again. Any other ideas are welcome.

I posted this in the other thread that was linked earlier to help the other folks out. But here it is. Im mad that I wasted so much time but happy to have figured this out. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction and for the thoughts, Prof Yaffle.
Okay. Even though I wasted tons of time just to find out that everything works perfect. Go http://lifehacker.com/5981757/how-to-watch-and-record-live-tv-on-your-xbmc-media-center and read through the details. The "frontend" is the adapter! I dont know if yours says "Samsung S5H1411 QAM/8VSB Frontend" or whatever, but that is what you use to tune channels etc.. It doesn't matter that the signal strength is 0%. Then add DVB by location. Its all there in the article. This is what worked for me anyway. I'm using OpenELEC as my standalone XBMC software, so all of the drivers and firmware appear to be good. I hope this helps.
