New UK Freeview HD Channels - or not...
Added by Prof Yaffle almost 11 years ago
Folks -
Having just spent some futile time on this, I thought I'd share it in case it saves anyone else from ploughing the same pointless furrow.
I noticed that I had the new HD stations on satellite, but not terrestrial. It didn't bother me over Xmas, but I thought I'd now dig into why they weren't showing up.
It seems that not all of the new BBC HD channels are available everywhere. CBBC/BBC Three are, since they ride on existing capacity - but CBeebies/BBC Four and BBC News are using new mux capacity (com7/com8) which isn't available everywhere. At launch, they're targeting 50% of the population, rising to 70% "by Wimbledon" (April/May timeframe).
ukfree.tv lists where they will land (channel/frequency) but they're not necessarily broadcasting yet, so no end of config tweaking, TSID sleuthing or Guard Interval twiddling will make them show up. Trust me on that one ... :-)
