Continuity counter errors with LiveTV

Added by George Paitai over 11 years ago

After a rash of 'Continuity counter errors' recently, I did a clean reinstall of OpenElec 3.0.3 on my new HTPC (http://www.quietpc.com/sys-sidewinder). I am using 2 DVB-T HDHomeruns as my TBS6284 tuner card is not usable with OpenElec because of conflicting drivers (another story!) Anyways LiveTV worked well for an hour or so after install but then 'Continuity counter errors' resurfaced. I tried disabling idle scanning & rebooting to no avail. Any help appreciated.

Hi
as far as i know "Continuity counter errors" is an error in the MPEG stream.

I did remove those error by going about it like this.

first get proper cables, connectors, LTE shielded.. NEW ones!.(Iphone 5 LTE is evil, when LTE is in use).

Isolate what freq/MUX's you need for the channels you have/can receive, and only ask tvheadend to scan those, my antenna can see 2 towers.. one with good reception and one bad.. and tvheadend will use both if not unmarked for scaning(I think).

Check that the antenna is made for DVB-T(size/freq), not to big not to old!.
i have this antenna installed under my roof..

Silvercrest DVB-T Indoor Aerial:

don't have the FM antenna up, only use the ring...

last.. don't have an access-point/wireless card transmitting nearby(3-5 feet) the antenna/connectors or tuner.

i have no errors now...

hopes this helps, maybe you don't have to do all the 'tricks' I had to..

EDIT: for those of you that use Raspberry Pi, remember that Raspberry Pi is NOT shielded AT ALL.. don't have it nearby a DVT-t/c connector/ or tuner.. at least it can have an bad effect on reception.

Thanks for your suggestions but my reception is rock solid and not at fault. I had a tv aerial specialist check my reception and make new premium antenna cables two years ago. I also only ever use one tower when scanning and configuring DVB inputs, so no problems here.

Since my post, I've updated to the latest OpenElec 3.1.1 with TVHeadend 3.4 and all continuity errors have disappeared. The only occasional problem I now have is when selecting a LiveTV channel, it may stall while buffering. A quick reboot seems to fix this so not a major.

TVHeadend still rocks!

Did you try it with the "Full mux reception" option set to "off" at your adapter settings? Had the same issue before, until I found this tip. From then on it worked all just fine.
