OpenElec setup
Added by Henk de Vries almost 12 years ago
Hello all,
I'm new to Tvheadend, so perhaps I'm asking something very obvious here, but here it goes:
I'm running OpenELEC on my ASRock ION 330HT, and I want to use this for watching TV also. I've installed the Tvheadend and oscam-addons, but what's next? I don't see any options in the menu that indicate watching live-tv or anything. I'm guessing I need another addon for this, but I don't know which one...
Does anybody have this same setup as me? Perhaps he/she could be so kind as to give me a few hints or tips?
Thank you!

Hoi Henk,
You are being a bit unclear about your problem:
I don't see any options in the menu that indicate watching live-tv or anything. I'm guessing I need another addon for this, but I don't know which one...
I asume this is in XBMC. Indeed you should specifically activate the tv-plugin under the settings in xbmc.
However, you first need to configure tvheadend. I guess you should go to:
Where 192.168.0.y is the IP-adress of your ASRock ION 330HT.
Then you should be greeted by the tvheadend-webpage. From there you can configure tvheadend as described elsewhere on this page.
Once tvheadend works, you can use XBMC to watch tv ( using tvheadend).
Hope this gives some pointers in the right direction,
Alex.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the reply! am indeed referring to XBMC in my question. I'm completely new as I said before, so that's probably why I didn't state my question clearly. I was expecting to get a new option in the home-screen of XBMC, next to the existing ones like "Weather", "Videos", "Music", etcetera, somethin like "Live TV" or something.
I just disconnected my HTPC so I can't test anything right now (I'm moving in a couple of weeks, so I'm packing everything), but I'm sure I will refer to your tips again after I've settled in!
Thanks for the pointers!
Henk.

It will appear as an option after you have enabled live tv in XBMC:
Go to System , Settings. There should be an option "live tv" ( next to appearence, video etc ). In the Live TV submenu, the you can activate "life tv".
However, you first need to active the PVR-addon for tvheadend ( available from the addon-menu).
( I am not sure how this is in open elec, but this is how it is in the "regular" version of XBMC.)
This is only the XBMC-part, which only makes sense once you have tvheadend running (as described in the earlier post).
Hope this helps once you have your mediacenter unpacked again and you can try :-)
Alex.
PS: I just found this XBMC/PVR-tutorial on the xbmc-wiki which explains the process step by step.

There is a TVheadend process Add-On and an TVheadend PVR Add-On. I think he only installed the last one and forgot the first one.
