Tvheadend video stream fluidity

Hi guys!

It's the first time I use Tvheadend and I have to say that is very easy to use and it works amazing!

I have to say that the only thing I would like to improve (in my system) is video fluidity.

The server is a i3 4330 (I use iGPU on it) with Ubuntu 20.04. I use a USB DVB-T as tuner (A867 blu led) and everything is connected via Ethernet. When I watch a channel, even on the same server, the video is not as fluid as it should be on a normal tv.

Is there any way to improve this?

In KODI when watching press "i"

What infos should I find when pressing "i"?

It tells me infos about audio (2.0, Dolby) and video (1.78:1, h.264)

actually info is with "o"

"o" infos says:

Video decoder: ff-h264-d3d11va (HW)
Pixel format: d3d11va_vld
Deinterlace mode: unknown

(I'm translating from italian to english, so maybe the translation is a bit different)
And more infos about resolution and audio.

But this basically means nothing, because you don't see the dropped (!) packets on
your client system. Kodi has changed the infoscreen a while ago.

If you are using Kodi on an i3 HW decoding should also work with FullHD - but you
will see droppped packets on e.g. a Raspis.

My recommendation:

-> check if Audio/Video is in sync on your client

-> use "pause" / "resume" to see if there are buffering issues on your client

If you see those problems: most probably this is a client issue.

d3d11va iGPU decoding should be sufficient.

-> check the subscribtion status on tvheadend, if there are errors

A couple of minutes ago I've solved the issue: the problem was related to the "display frequency change" in the player menu. It was set to OFF, while using "ALWAYS" as option, Kodi switches to the right display refresh frequency everytime I change channel.

Now all channels are fluid.
