How do I get it back after an upgrade?
Added by M J over 5 years ago
I'm running Raspbian Stretch on a RPi 3 and I did an upgrade/dist-upgrade but now my Tvheadend has disappeared from the Kodi menu and I'm not sure how to get it back.
The "TV" option is still there, but when I go to it, it just tells me I have to install an addon for it. Unfortunately, I can't even figure out if I installed it from packages or built it from source. But I did see a tvheadend package before I did the upgrade. That part has me fearful of my next step. What should it be?

For one thing, that video presumes I'm doing it by packages and not a build, which I'm not against doing, if it works. So I followed the video (I hadn't installed kodi-pvr-tvheadend-hts or enabled Tvheadend) but now that I've done that (and restarted my R.Pi) it hasn't improved much. The "TV" interface has now come alive, but whenever I select one of the submenu options ("Channels" or "Guide") I just get a vacuous promise that "TV manager is starting up 0%" ad infinitum. Also, when I go to the web interface that it promises will work (http://192.168.1.103:9981/extjs.html?) the web server is down.

Ah, I'll bet it had something to do w/this:
Apr 21 18:32:35 dospace tvheadend560: spawn: /bin/tar: ./superuser~: Cannot open: Permission denied
from systemctl. superuser~ is a year-old file owned by root in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/. Restarting tvheadend it all seems to work now. Seems strange it caused all this trouble.
