TVHeadend 3.4.24 crashes on Kodi 17.3

Added by Saj Choudhary over 7 years ago

Hi,
For some reason I can't access any channels on my Android box, which is running 17.3 and TVHeadend 3.4.24.
When I choose a channel, it completely exits out of Kodi.
On my laptop, which is running 17.3 and TVHeadend 3.4.16, it works fine.
Any help is much appreciated.

When I try to update, it says: There are currently no updates available for this add-on.
Mind you, it says that as well on my laptop, which runs 3.4.16.
How do I update to the most recent version?

Thanks.
I'm a bit of a noob, so was hoping for a bit of assistance.
How exactly do I install this in Kodi?
I went to My Addons and tried to install from Zip file.
It just came up with an error, when I selected the file (tvheadend-4.2.2.zip)
Any help is much appreciated.

The Kodi addon is 3.4.24. The Tvheadend version is 4.2.2. They are separate pieces of software. Kodi and Tvheadend run independently of one another, and the Kodi addon is that software that communicates between the two.

What version of Tvheadend are you running?

I thought I was running 3.4.24. That's what Kodi tells me anyway.

That is the version of the addon, which is up-to-date date. Tvheadend is separate software that must be setup separately.

Additionally, I'll mention here the same thing that goes for the Kodi forums: a debug log is necessary to determine where your problems with Kodi may be.

Hmm, I'm all confused :(
I've got TVHeadend running in Kodi 17.3 on both my Android phone (3.4.24) and also Macbook Pro (3.4.16).
They're both working perfectly well.
How do I set up the actual TVHeadend software on my Android box (and not the addon)?
Also, if I need to provide you with a debug log, how is this done, when I don't get an actual error?
It just quits out of Kodi, when I try to choose a channel.

Would it be of any help, if I recorded a small video the actual issue?

If you've got Kodi on your Mac connecting to a Tvheadend server without problem, then you obviously have a working Tvheadend installation: which version of Tvheadend are you running? If it is prior to 4.2, you really should upgrade to the current stable version (4.2.2).

As far as a video, that really won't help. For Kodi, the instructions on getting a debug log are found on their site: http://kodi.wiki/view/Debug_log

AFAIK, Tvheadend doesn't run on Android or OS X/macOS, so I'm confused how you have it running properly without a Linux machine running your server. How did you go about configuring Tvheadend?

If you're confused, perhaps you need to read Kodi's PVR information: http://kodi.wiki/view/Pvr

Kodi does not do any streaming on its own, and does not handle any TV functions on its own. It requires third-party software to handle your TV needs, and then additionally a "PVR Client Addon" to interact with your TV software on Kodi's behalf.

Inside plugin there is a hostname port user and password
open browser
http://hostname:port (port 9981 by default)
and use username an password
then you will see version

The thing that I don't get is that I've always just been told to go to:
My Addons
PVR Clients
TVHeadend
And inside there, choose configure, and enter certain information.

This is what I see (photo attached).

So I'm not sure how to go in and open a browser within the plugin.

Sorry about all these questions, but I just don't understand why it works on my Macbook Pro (running 3.4.16), my Android phone (running 3.4.24), but not on the Android box, also running 3.4.24). It worked absolutely fine on the box up until yesterday.

Strange!
Now it all works again on my box.
Yesterday it didn't.
I cleared the cache, rebooted box. Still, it crashed every time.
24 hours later and I'm trying again...and now it works!
