Suddenly useless quality using IPTV (T-Entertain)
Added by Fux 777 almost 9 years ago
Hi experts,
I am facing serious quality problems with my rPI2 on OpenELEC. I've installed and configured tvheadend as background service on Kodi. For TV I am using IPTV from German "Telekom" (product "T-Entertain"). All channels have been configured in tvheadend. The frontend is connected using tvheadend htsp client. Everything worked fine for several weeks, but last Wednesday the quality became bad. The screen of some channels, but not of all, consists out of very rough pixel and artifacts and get stuck. In such cases the quality gets worse when there are much changes on the screen. So it looks like the h264 encoder doesn't get the image processing under control. The affected channels change, after a reboot, some time, or other. When I use VLC on my PC to look one of these channels, there is never such a problem. So I think the problem depends on the rPI2 or the software on it. By the way the problem also occurs on the corresponding video AddOn for "T-Entertain". This can be an evidence, that tvh is not reasonable.
Now I am a little bit helpless how to analyze this issue and hope you can help me. First of all I've the following ideas and questions:
1. How can I encircle the problem, perhaps to focus my investigation on one of the following items:
a) tvheadend server
b) tvheadend htsp client
c) kodi or OpenELEC itself
d) others....
2. Is there a way to check whether the hardware and software ressources are okay? Actually I only know to start "top" during a SSH session.
Bye!

Same problem here. Tried these things:
1.) Changed the RasPi hardware. Used wlan instead of lan.
2.) Installed tvheadend on my synology nas and configured T-Entertain. Configured kodi (openelec) to use my synology as an tvheadend server. I disabled tvheadend server on my pi. Same problems.
3.) Reboot of my switch and fritzbox.
Have you solved your problem?

Hi Arnold,
No, I couldn't solve the problem till now. But with highest probability it has nothing to do with tvheadend, as there are a couple of people who are also facing this problem, but using other plugins. The topic is also handled in the following german forum, but currently without a break through:
