ABC channels dissapeared
Added by Danny Osbourne about 10 years ago
Hi there,
I'm new to this forum so bare with me
My Setup:
Raspberry Pi Model B
Running XBMC Gotham on OpenELEC.
PS3 USB Sony PlayTV tuner
Located in QLD Australia
Sorry if this has been answered already but couldnt find anything.
I had my live TV pretty much set up and it was working very well, not perfect but good enough.
all channels were present and EPG brought in all channel program info etc.
noticed one day that the EPG info for the ABC channels was missing, ie missing completely from the XBMC EPG screen, the channels were still there under TV Channels but nothing in the guide.
Tried resetting database etc but nothing changed.
Tried deleting all channels and re-scanning but now I cant get the ABC channels at all.
Looks like it still finds the MUX as there are two MUX signals present with no names or IDs etc attached to them. I assume they are it, but how can I get my channels back with EPG info??
Could it be a new build that has messed something up?
Does the XBMC add-on update itself? ive never noticed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Danny

The ABC has changed the frequencies of the muxes in QLD and the ones stored in TVHeadend may be out of date.
If there are muxes in your mux list that do not have names next to them then they have changed frequency.
To find your closest mux here is a link to the ABCs tower finder site:
http://www.abc.net.au/reception/freq/
It will give you the locations of the transmitters in your area and the frequencies in MHz.
Depending on which version of TVHeadend you have you may need to convert the frequency to kHz using this formula:
frequency in kHz = frequency in MHz x 1000
Most likely you will get more than one mux for your postcode. Select the geographically closest one first and add the Mux manually using the
following settings:
On the TVHeadend web interface on the Multiplexers Page, click the add muxes manually button and use the following
settings for the ABC.
Frequency (kHz): <frequency of closest transmission tower>
Bandwidth: 7 Mhz
Constellation: QAM-64
Transmission mode: 8k
Guard interval: Auto
Hierarchy: Auto
FEC Hi: Auto
FEC Lo: Auto
then click Add, then close the add mux dialogue box.
If you have done this correctly, the new mux will obtain its name and all its signal parameters. Then click Save Changes.
I would also delete all the muxes which do not have there names next to them as they have not been tuned correctly/out-of-date
and save the changes.
Last but not least click on the General Tab on the web interface and click the button "Map services to TV channels" then click the Save
button for your TV tuner.
Hopefully this will fix the problem.
If your channel list in XBMC/Kodi is all messed up, reset the PVR and EPG databases as per the following page on the
XBMC/Kodi Wiki:
http://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/Live_TV
Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the response. I think i tried doing it manually once but wasnt confident in what i was doing, however I followed your instructions and still no joy. I searched for the mux for townsville and got two MUXs. The one in Stuart might actually be closer but i tried them both and still no joy.
It still doesnt bring in the names/IDs and hence the channels.
I tried adding DVB Network by location again but made no difference, it still says 4 Muxs awaiting initial scan (2 old and 2 new i added).
Ive included some screen shots. Have I got the right settings in the General tab? There are some unmapped services in the services tab, however they were there before.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Danny

Dear Danny,
Give this a try: In the muxes tab, remove the muxes that are not working and leave the ones you have manually added (refer to annotated screenshot).
then click save settings in the muxes tab.
In the general tab:
Change the Full Mux Reception setting to Off, then click Save.
Last but not, least click Map Services to TV channels then click Save.
See how that goes.

Hi there,
looks like I was a bit impatient as i realised after posting that last message that the ABC mux's had been eventually scanned and brought in and were working correctly! thanks again. I'll apply those settings you recommended anyway.
Also, it appears my nine network is also missing! didnt realise at first. I wanted to do the same thing but couldnt find the frequencies for nine in my area, do you have any idea were to find them?
I do have a few other questions regarding icons, recording and iptv but i'll save those until i've got all my channels back
thanks again for your help, much appreciated
Danny

Here are the mux frequencies for all the commercial channels and government channels ABC and SBS in your area.
I have listed Townsville and Stuart. Choose the location that is closest to you first. You will need to add all the frequencies
one-by-one to get all your channels.
Townsville
ABC34 National 571.5 MHz
RTQ35 Commercial 578.5 MHz
TNQ36 Commercial 585.5 MHz
SBS37 National 592.5 MHz
STQ38 Commercial 599.5 MHz
Stuart
ABC46 National 655.5 MHz
STQ47 Commercial 662.5 MHz
TNQ48 Commercial 669.5 MHz
RTQ49 Commercial 676.5 MHz
SBS51 National 690.5 MHz
TNQ60 Commercial 753.5 MHz
On the TVHeadend web interface on the Multiplexers Page, click the add muxes manually button and use the following
settings for the ABC.
Frequency (kHz): <frequency of mux>

The source of where I got all the television mux information for Australia is from the ACMA Transmitters Handbook:
The ACMA is the Australian Communications and Media Authority which handles all the radio broadcast licences.

Thanks so much, you've been a great help. I now have all my channels back!
I was hoping you could help me out on another couple of points:
I currently select my channel icons from a folder i saved on my raspberry pi via the channel manager in XBMC. However these sometimes seem to disappear, especially if i have to reset the database for some reason.
I wanted to set the icons in the URL column on the TVHeadend web interface but i'm not sure of the correct syntax for Linux? Is it also possible to point to a folder on my windows machine? (where i have all my media stored) as i couldn't get that to work either.
OR do you know of a more reliable method that will automatically download the icons for each channel?
The TV tuner I have is a dual tuner and the pause and record functions are working correctly. However, the recordings default to a folder on the pi and it is limited in space, how can i record to a folder on my windows machine? I tried to set that up before but to no avail.
any help appreciated
Many thanks
Danny

No worries, I am glad you got your RaspberryPi humming along!
Personally, I would not record to a network drive for LiveTV even on a PC as the network connection
has too much delay than a directly connected hard drive via a self-powered USB Hub.
It would probably be better to ask the people on the OpenELEC forum about external hard drives and the RaspberryPi and what
the best file system to use with OpenELEC and TVHeadend. They will also help you with getting the syntax right.
I would also read up on basic Linux commands. I would look up the Debian documentation as OpenELEC is a cut down version
of Debian.
