Bind CA to tuner
Added by Chris G about 10 years ago
Hello!
I would like to ask if there is an option/possibility to bind a specific CA to a specific tuner?
Or maybe is there a workaround with users?
I'm using HTS Tvheadend 3.9.1992~gf1da79f~trusty...
Thanks!
Edit 18.11.
maybe I'll try to explain my "problem" with an example.
I've got 4 tuners (DVB-S), and 4 independent CA- connections. From same "provider", but different accounts.
How does tvhe this handle:
1 tuner starts live tv on sky. So the tuner uses the 1st free CA I guess.
then tuner 2 starts recording orf. This tuners uses the next available CA?
What happens, if tuner 3 also starts recording, on sky? Uses tuner 3 a new CA connection, or the same as tuner 1?
I don't really know how this is handled from tvhe...
I'm asking because it's not allowed that one CA account is used by 2 tuners at the same time.
Thanks a lot!

Not really.
I'm doing like this:
One provider, who allows with one account two simultaneously recordings.
And I've created serveral networks with choosen channels.
Works for me, but surley not perfekt.

If I understand that correct, you create a network with scrambled and FTA channels, assign that to card 1 and 2 and create another network with only FTA channels and bind that to card 3 and 4?
Two accounts with two simultaneously recordings (4 total) is not working for me, tv card 3 is allways using newcamd login 1, card 4 also. I miss an option, to bind a CA to different adapter. Are there any plans in the future?
Beside that, newcamd is perfect working in tvh for me with two adapters.

exactly like that i'm runnig it.
because, like you, i'm missing an option to asign a tuner to a CA.
i wasn't able to avoid that sheduled recordings (or live tv) uses the "next free" ca-account, if one is already in use.

That missing option reduce the freedom of 4 tuners and recording. But thank you for your explanations.

I got it working!
I have two receiver now with twin dvb-s2 tuner, one account on box one, second on box two. If a stream is running from a tuner (1 or/and 2) from box one, the newcamd login from box one is taken, same on box two, tuner 1 or/and 2 --> newcamd login 2.
So it seems, it's only a problem with receiver with more then two tuners built in. So this option would be really great.

Yes, I use two Wetek Openelec Box, like the Wetek Play, but cheaper and without useless Android. http://openelec.tv/openelec-box
A lot cheaper than a VU+ DUO, easy to setup and less power consumption than a pc or server. Is running with OE 6.0.1, tvh 4.1.1258 and aml-vnc only. One box export both tuner with the Sat>IP option to the second box and this one act as a four tuner server. Look at this howto from Mytril Goldhand, posting 6, https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/19030

Well, this is realy cool!
Like this the Wetek-Box could be interesting also for me.
In addition you use a NAS?
I'm running an Ubunu-Server with 14.04 LTS, Tvhe 4.0.5, 2 Dual-DVB-S2 cards and some storage as tv-server.

Yes, I use an old Qnap 412 as recording storage and an usb stick connected to the masterbox as timeshift folder.
But I can not recommend the box as client, there's an aspect ratio problem on certain 4:3 broadcast with hardware acceleration enabled, same problem on my arm tablet, Samsung 12". Without hardware acceleration the aspect ratio is correct, but the stream lags as hell. This is, so I read somewhere, a problem with the graphic driver on this arm type, not Kodi, not TVH related. Anyway, I don't use the box as client and other clients working well.
Yesterday I tried some different situations with my new setup, recording and streaming, this goes very well, but with descrambling there is something to know. As I wrote before, two boxes, two different logins and it works, so far. Two boxes, one login, on master or slave and it don't work correct. An example: Box 1 has the CA enabled, both tuner are used with descrambling subscription and you record/watch a third channel, which is scrambled, then the stream is running from box 2 and a third subscription is running on box 1, but there's no picture, no sound, nothing. So in the end, this setup is only correct working with two different CA login credentials, one on each box.
