TVheadend does not decode ORF programms
Added by Sulla Sulla about 10 years ago
dear all!
I have troubles watching encrypted channels over astra.
My system is TVheadend 3.4.27 on openelec 4.0.7 running on an AMD 64bit computer.
As TV input I use 2 tuners, on of which has a common interface, the DVBSky S960C, a USB receiver (My other adapter is a DVBSky S960, the "sister" adapter without common interface). I plugged in a CAM module and the smartcard. The CAM module and smartcard work and can decode the programme well in a Kathrein set-top-box, so it works in principle.
dmesg | grep DVB

I want to watch ORF1HD, the main Austrian programme. It is encrypted with the Irdeto codec: TVHeadend gives this as service details in the web frontend:
PID TypeDetails
1920H264

When I tune a client to this programme, teh "Status" page of TVHeadend web config says:
hostname: IP of the host, looks ok
Title: VLC media player, looks ok
Channel: ORF1 HD,looks ok
Service: DVBSky C960CI/ASTRA 1: 11,302,750 kHz, Horizontal (No satconf)/ORF1 HD, looks ok
Start: date the client connected, looks ok
State: Bad
So, the state is bad. I assume, because the programme does not get descambled.
The CAM is supposed to descramble about 7-10 programmes of Austrian providers, all with the same result.
What am I doing wrong?
It almost looks like TVHeadend is not using the CAM moduel at all. Do I have to tell it somewhere to use it?
Thanx for your help,
Sulla

Tvheadend does not support CI/CAM hardware. Use Mumudvb for this and add the stream as IPTV in tvheadend.

Thanks. I was not aware of the fact that TVheadend does not support CI interfaces...
Hm, this is sad. I'll give the OScam approach a try, as I need openelec to communicate with my existing DVB-adapters. They are only supported from Openelec, not from regular linux distros, which are missing a kernel patch for the driver.
I've seen other users' reports about success operating the CI-interfaces on my tuners, so I thought they were well supported in TVheadend, but they must have used some other software.
I'll look into the CWC protocol that tvheadend does support, however.
Thanx, Sulla

as you've said the best way to do this is to setup oscam to read the card and that can pass the info on to tvheadend when oscam is setup in the right way.

I know that this thread is pretty old alread, but could you provide some info on how to install and configure oscam? I haven't really found any official manuals for the ORF card in oscam, which is supposed to decode a few austrian tv channels. I can provide more information if required.

I set up oscam and coupled it to tvheadend, basically following the tutorial at https://tvheadend.org/boards/4/topics/8523
and adapting the card-information to match the caid etc... of the card.

Can you please let me know what oscam settings you exactly used to get the DVBSky S960CI CI/CAM hardware recognized in oscam? Drivers etc are working fine.
Thanks!

Sorry, no, meanwhile I use the S960 without CI/CAM. I returned the one with CAM and bought the one without.
As a CI/CAM I use the smargo smartreader 2, connected via USB.
Reason is, I have 4 S960 receivers and one smartreader.
