IPTV stream hand-off from server to device?
Added by Anonymous over 5 years ago
I'm about a week into using this product purely for IPTV, and I'm amazed at what it does.
What I would like to know is, if there is a way to hand-off the stream from the server to the device? And if so, is this a server or device setting?
I've noticed that the server has considerable network traffic while playing on a device.
In case the above doesn't make sense, here's an example scenario.
The device connects to the server to get an EPG. The user then selects something live to watch.
Now, rather than streaming the show through the server to the device, I want the server to inform the device where the web source stream is coming from so the device can then stream directly from that source and on whatever connection they are on. Thereby removing the load from the server.
I don't fully understand the technical workings of IPTV and therefore if this is a ridiculous question.

There isn't currently a way to do this.
Depending on what your device is, you could probably find IPTV clients that will provide an EPG and stream stuff directly [there are a number of kodi add-ons that do this for example].
Connecting to TVH wouldn't have much utility in a client like that.

Thanks for your reply, and providing an answer to if this is possible.
The particular use case I was imaging was still having TVH as my curated EPG and as a central recording server, while still able to offload the stream.
