It would be nice to add an allert, like a pop-up window with an error when it is not possible to save the configuration made. To prevent users from creating all his settings and then whe restart all is lost without hardly noticing except a log that almost no one sees.

Did you mean that the write permissions to the configuration directory are missing ?
