Description

I am using Tvheadend 4.1-986~gfb9044c (also tried other versions, same result) on a Raspberry Pi2 with a Terratec Synergy HTC Stick and I am having trouble tuning to some Ziggo channels. Checking the mux tab, three transponders (377Mhz, 530Mhz and 682Mhz) are on status FAIL. However, they do present a number of services >0.

When tuning to one of the channels on the transponder, the log is as follows:

The channels are visible when using media portal. I have tried everything I could think of to get this solved.

Please help me!

The input stream is wrong (too many errors). Also, your card reader does not give the descrambling keys - "cwc: Can not descramble service "BBC Three / CBBC", access denied".

So, try another kernel version and fix the decoding problem.

When using MediaPortal, the channel is descrambled correctly by the card reader. So the problem isn't the card reader.

What's wrong with the kernel version, any idea? I am currently running:

Linux meter.benn.lan 4.1.7-v7+ #817 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 19 15:32:00 BST 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux

Do you use mediaportal with the same kernel?

MediaPortal is a windows application...

OK. There is some issue with the linux's dvbapi in recent 4.x kernels, but your issue might be different. Try another kernel or try update drivers for your hw. We cannot do much with the broken stream at the application level.

I have downgraded the kernel to:

Linux meter 3.18.16-v7+ #795 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jun 17 13:24:01 BST 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux

Behavior is still the same, failing on the same three transponders. The device is supported by the kernel. What else could be wrong?

If you need me to run some extra tests or debug options, please let me know. I am happy to help :)

It's not a TVH problem. The MPEG-TS stream from the driver (kernel) is broken. You may try to set nearby frequencies, but it's just a guess.

The odd thing is that the transponders seem to fail at random: sometimes one does come up with status OK. But after a while it falls back to FAILED.
But always the same three end up with status FAILED. That's weird (to me at least)...

Try to enable some workarounds in the tuner settings - like repeat tune requests etc.

I've tried them all, but no luck so far...

Too bad, this is making a linux replacement for mediaportal a no-go for now :( :(

I think your problem here is the RPi2 - I've had the same issue using mine. The problem is that there just isn't enough bandwidth to go around. I've found it's near impossible for the RPi/2 to be able to stream more than 45Mb/s without glitching this is because there is only one USB bus between all those ports AND Ethernet. You're using cable so I'm guessing the streams are even larger.

If you want to use a SBC get something like a Banana Pi which has native Ethernet (the old models are really cheap now).

I don't even get to using the bandwith: it already fails during scanning the muxes. I assume bandwith usage then is still limited...

If I compare the banana pi to the RPi2, specs are almost the same. Did switching solve your problems?

I have tried the DVBC USB stick on a 'normal' PC, same problem. The RPI2 therefore is not the root cause.

If these problems are caused by kernel issues, how can I help to get them solved? I am more than happy to assist.
I have been searching the internet for clues, but failed to find any lead to these issues. Even worse: I cannot find anyone who seems to be working on it.

If it's a kernel issue you may want to post on the kernel.org mailing list or mail whoever wrote the driver for the device.

Klara, you mention some muxes that also don't work on my systems with Ziggo. Only 474000000 does deliver some channels. I had a hard time finding a somewhat stable version of TVHeadend, but on my RPi3 with Anysee TC30 and phoenix mouse cardreader I am able to decode all channels I want to see with Openelec 6.0.3, and the TVHeadend 4.08/Oscam combination of the unofficial addons. Please state the exact channels you miss.

I am getting scan status FAIL on 4 transponders:
- 530MHz
- 762MHz
- 377MHz
- 682MHz
When tuning to channels on one of these transponders, I am getting the errors as logged in the first post.
