HDHomeRun - Set tuner for recording
Added by Lifelogger - about 11 years ago
Hi,
Have a question. I run TVHeadend on a NAS. I use a HDHomeRun as hardware for TVHeadend to load the channels, etc.
Now I have an XBMC installation with TVHeadend addon installed to watch TV on my XBMC installation. All works perfectly.
Now I want to be able to record and watch TV at the same time on XBMC. So, what I would like is to set TVHeadend in a way that it will always use the second tuner in my HDHomeRun for recording so I can use the first tuner to watch tv.
How can I set this up? From what I remember I can not active two tuners in TVHeadend, as I can not watch TV anymore in XBMC.
Hope someone can help me with this.
Take care.

Hi,
You can activate two HDhomerun tuners in tvheadend.
There should be no need to specify one adapter for recording and another for viewing: TVHeadend should take care of that ( similar to watching channels on different muxes at the same time).
However, see this similar recent post which showed problems with watching and recording from a client too:
https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/9188
If your setup doesn't work, can you be a bit more specific about what doesn't work?
Also, first make sure you can watch and record (at the same time on both tuners) using the web-interface to distinguish between possible problems.

I have the exact same issue as described in the topic you posted with your reply.
Strangely enough I can set a program recording, switch to an other TV Channel and watch it. In TVHeadend I can see twee streams running. However, as soon as I stop watching tv to switch to an other channel, I try to watch that I get the message "adapter in use by other subscription".
So it seems it works only once and then stops. I can see in TVHeaded that one channel that I was watching is idle. So somehow it's not cleared?

Did you try changing the priority of the other tuner? This seemed to help ?
Also, does your problem occur anyhow, or only when using xbmc as a frontend ?
But I think this is unwanted behavior, so (after checking all the stuff mentioned in the other post) you can consider filing a bugreport with the debug-info.

Hello Alex,
I have made some changes to the settings of TVHeadend and going to see if that helps tonight. Did for example set the priories again and did some new channels scans with both adapters. Hopefully that will help. Will let you know.

Hello Alex,
Seems like that doing a new channel scan and mapping worked with a tuner priority as well. Problem is resolved now. I have tested it with recording a program and watching a different channel at the same time. Can now stop watching and select a new channel as well. That did not work before.
So, for me the issue is fixed now. :-)
Thank you!

Hi Peter,
Nice, Good that it works !
As a check, now the scan is completed, you might change the priorities back so they are similar and see if the problem comes back again. If so, maybe file a bug.

Well, checked it with both prio's to 0. And doesn't make a difference. It works perfectly. Think in my case the problem was with scannen and mapping on the second tuner.
