Changing aspect ratio during recording
Added by Jan Dvorak over 11 years ago
I am trying to record some TV series broadcasted with aspect ratio 4:3. To catch the beginning, I start recording a few minutes sooner when commercials with aspect ratio 16:9 are broadcasted. When I play the recorded MKV file, it seems to be all in 16:9, so everything is stretched in the series episode. How can I set the TVheadend to change the aspect ratio during recording if the aspect ratio of broadcasted stream changes?
I am using Tvheadend 3.5.201~g2a9ccdd with AVerMedia AVerTV Volar HD/PRO (A835) on Linux with Intel Atom 330 CPU.

If you change the "Media container:" to "Same as Source (Pass-Through)" you'll get aspect ratio switching back. Apparently MKV doesn't support aspect radio switching
I noticed the same when recording gotv - the studio shots and new music videos are widescreen, where as old videos are 4:3 (none of this daft pillar boxing or stretch-o-vision the UK broadcasters use!).
