tvheadend 3.0 freezes computer

Added by robban b over 11 years ago

Hi!

I have an ubuntu headless server 12.04.2 and a Hauppauge hvr-900h attached.
after i made a clean install ubuntu 12.04 and added firmware xc3028_36.fw to lib/firmware i installed tvheadend.3.0_i386.deb using webmin.
and everything worked fine until i today rebooted the server.
now the driver isn´t installed on boot and when i manually install the driver using "modprobe tm6000_dvb" and start up tvheadend, the whole server totally freezes.
but if i just install the driver and DON´T start tvheadend the server is running fine.

what could cause this problem? what can i do to fix it?

Hi,

To determine the cause of the problem, it might be easiest to first check if your videocard actually works after inserting the driver using some other program like VLC.

Maybe first check:
Is your device present where it should be ? ( like /dev/dvb..)
Can you check using lspci / lsusb to see if the device is present in a proper way?

Alex.

yes. the computer detects the usb tuner....however sometimes it does not and then i have to unplug and plug it in again.
and the drivers load fine according to dmesg.

i have read though that huappauge hvr-900h isn´t supported fully with kernel 3.2.x ?? is this just rumors or what?

sendond. just to veryfy...i installed the tvheadend_3.0_i386.deb...is this correct or should i use tvheadend-master instead.
i dont use the server as backend...it only streams to other computers at home. so i cannot use vlc on this since it is a headless system.
