Some basic tvheadend access questions
Added by Ken Gillett over 1 year ago
I have spent quite some time learning and configuring tvheadend and I am now able to stream satellite radio stations (from Kathrein SAT>IP server) over my local network, transcoded from the broadcast mp2 to aac. However, to help complete my understanding of how TVH works, I'd really appreciate answers to a couple of general questions:-
While streaming the same (satellite) station via VLC and also another player I have, I noticed TVH is running 2 connections and 2 subscriptions, but only one SAT>IP tuner is being used. The latter is great and as it should be and TVH's 2 connections are from the 2 players, but what are the 2 subscriptions?
• I think that means TVH is running 2 internal 'paths' and in fact the 2 players were about 4 seconds out of sync. All of which makes me think TVH is running 2 audio paths and each with its own transcode process. Is that the case? How is TVH handling a single input to 2 separate clients?
• Is there any way to simplify the stream URLs?
I download the m3u playlist which provides the URLs for all the channels, but all include a (presumably TVH generated) channel ID. Is there a way to eliminate that and just access by channel name? Just thinking of how to make it simpler to enter and access a station/channel.
• Which stream profile takes precedence? Does a profile specified in the stream URL's query string override anything specified for the user?
• What are the profiles specified for a user? Since multiple can be specified, how can that 'fix' a particular profile to be always used?
Hope someone can help with answers to the above.
