Remove and Reinstall TVH - SOLVED
Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
How can I completely remove all tvheadend configuration, so that I can start from scratch, as though it is a new install? I am using the Ubuntu stable package, 20.04.5 LTS
I messed up during install. Now it's asking for user name and a password and i don't know either.
I have seen suggestion on deleting the “/home/hts/.hts/“ but I can’t find the “hts” folder in “home” or anywhere. Also only place I find a “tvheadend” folder is “./snap/tvheaend”
I tried to delete this folder but it won’t allow. any help will be greatly appreciated.

What method did you use to install TVH. What source did you use ie PPA, Snap or self build.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
I used the wizard but i believe I entered the URL (192.168.0.100:9981). I guess i should have entered the user name and a password.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
Where did you install TVH from. Was it from the Software Centre or did you use sudo apt install tvheadend from the Terminal. The wizard is used for configuring TVH. I think you installed TVH from Snap and that’s why you can’t find the folders or indeed delete them.
Have you now got TVH working ok.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
Yes. I installed from the Ubuntu Software. While running the Wizard, under Network Access, I entered the server URLfor "allowed Network" but left "Admin username" and "Admin password" blank. I know that wasn't smart thing to do. Anyway, here i am and i hope there is a solution. Thank you so much.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
Follow the instructions on this link
https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/2670
Alternatively if you are sure you installed the Debian package open the Terminal and copy this command into it and press Return key
sudo dpkg-reconfigure tvheadend
This will allow you to start over again fresh with the Wizard.
Please let us know if this worked for you.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
No. That didn't work. Now it doesn't ask for login info but says "This site can’t be reached 192.168.0.100 refused to connect.""
so to provide some additional info. I have Lebreelec(192.168.0.100) with storage drive connected which i believe is the backend? I am trying to access from laptop (client?)
What if reinstall or restore the Libreelec? Would that solve the problem?
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by saen acro almost 2 years ago
TVH in Libreelec is plugin in KODI.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
What hardware exactly have you installed TVH on.
LibreElec has its own TVH server and client which can be installed simply from the Addons section. LibreElec also is a complete OS in itself
Please tell us what hardware and operating system you are using and we can advise you the best route to take.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
I’m wondering if you are doing any searching here. I posted this here a while back
https://tvheadend.org/boards/4/topics/48228
You need to supply as much information on your setup as possible so users here can help you.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
Jonas, thank you for taking the time to help me troubleshoot. Yes. the first thing i did was search for the solution. Many posts mentioned about deleting "tvheadend/hts" folder (going from my memory) which i could not find. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling also. Nothing worked. Also, i may have deleted some files/folders as some suggested.
To give you additional info, i have Lebreelect on my HPCromebox (192.168.0.100) on I think i have installed the TVH server which I was accessing from my laptop so i can check the schedule and set the recordings.
I even restored the TVH on Libreelec to previous backup but that didn't help either.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
So there’s no further confusion, I assume you are talking about a HP Chromebook with Ubuntu 20.04 installed. Is that correct.
If you installed TVH from the Software Centre on the Ubuntu GUI all you need do is select the option to Uninstall it.
If that doesn’t work, to completely remove all traces of TVH, open the Terminal and copy/paste this command and press the Enter key
sudo apt-get purge tvheadend
You should now be able to start fresh again installing TVH and configuring properly again.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
so my laptop is HP Spectre with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. The Libreelec is on the HP Cromebox (not chromebook). So, i ran the purge command on my my laptop (this computer) and the output as shown below.
[sudo] password for dinesh:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package tvheadend
I don't see TVH under list of software but i still can't access http://192.168.0.120:9981/extjs.html. Even if i reinstall it i can't access it.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
Ok. The purge command has now proved you no longer have TVH installed on your laptop. It’s gone. All system files and configurations have been deleted.
Open the Terminal on Ubuntu
Add the Michael Marley PPA to your sources on Ubuntu as follows
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mamarley/tvheadend-git
Then update the sources list as follows
sudo apt update
Finally install TVH
sudo apt install tvheadend
All you need do now is open the browser point it at the Ubuntu machine. In your case assuming it’s as you say
192.168.0.100:9981
and set up the correct configuration

RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
Did you do exactly as I suggested. All the dependencies are automatically installed once you install from a PPA.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
sorry for the trouble. I think the issue is not on my laptop. I can install it on the laptop an it shows (http://127.0.0.1:9981/extjs.html) which is fine. But I am trying to access the server on the Libreelect/Kodi. I just looked on Libreelec/Kodi and i can't find or reinstall it there. until i figure it out how to reinstall it on Kodi it wont work. Thank you so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it. I will post here if i figure it out.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
You are trying to access your laptop server from your Chromebox client. Is that correct. I assume you have Kodi (Android) installed on the Chromebox and it is working correctly. Just point the TVH client on the Chromebox to the TVH server on the laptop and it should work. What is preventing you from doing this.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
Maybe I should ask the question. Is TVH now working correctly on your laptop. You can test this easily by opening the browser on the laptop and entering
192.168.0.1 Is it now correctly configured with an Admin name and password you supplied when the Wizard launched automatically. Is this correct.
If the TVH UI opens on the browser and you see the TVH Wizard it’s now working. Is this correct.
On your Chromebox you have Kodi installed. Is that correct. You then went to Addons in Kodi, and in the PVR Live TV section you selected TVHeadend and installed it. You then opened the Configuration section of TV Headend addon and entered the address of TV Headend from your laptop. You supplied the Name and Password that allows you to access TVH on your laptop.
Once all of this is done Kodi on the Chromebox will connect directly to TVH on the laptop and load any channels that are available from TVH on your laptop.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Dinesh Patel almost 2 years ago
so my goal was to have Server on the small form factor (Chromebox) directly connected to the TV with Kodi/LibreElec which is always on. And the connection was fine but i wasn't getting any services despite getting plenty of muxes. I was ran wizard couple of times and one time i happen to insert server id for "allowed network" and messed up the connection.
The laptop (client) is used to check the TV schedule and schedule recording. I don't think i will be able to use Chromebox as a server.
If i run the server on the laptop, doesn't the laptop have to be always on? That's not going to work. I do have a small mini Windows pc connected to the TV but I can't install TVH on it. Another option is to abandon the TVH altogether and go with Plex. I was trying to save some bucks. Thank you so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - Added by Jonas Lang almost 2 years ago
Shame you didn’t set out clearly your goals from the start. There are so many variations of that Chromebox out there including “hacked” models built using this guys firmware which effectively turns the box from a Chrome OS unit to a LibreELEC unit which does allow for TVH server and client to be installed
https://mrchromebox.tech/
What I suggest you do is a bit more research on the Chromebox you own first and then revisit what you’re trying to achieve. I also suggest you provide as much background information on your hardware/software setup and your goals the next time you’re looking for assistance rather than having members here drag it out of you on a piecemeal basis.

Yes. i should have included more details from the beginning. I have a great news to report. It's working. So after few attempts, i was able to reinstall the TVH Server on my LibreElec residing on my Chromebox. Thank you so much for taking the time to help troubleshoot.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - SOLVED - Added by Jonas Lang over 1 year ago
Did you purchase the Chromebox with LibreElec pre installed or did you install it yourself. Not sure what version of LibreElec you have on the Chromebox but that link I posted above shows how to upgrade the LibreElec version correctly. Mr Chromebox seems to be the go to guy for all that. Just be careful how you do it or you’ll thrash the Chromebox.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - SOLVED - Added by Dinesh Patel over 1 year ago
Hi Jonas. Yes i configured the Chromebox and installed LibreElec long time ago (circa 2018) using that link. Now my issue is that i am not getting services. Depending on what area (pre-defined muxes) i get many muxes but no services. Should i create a new post? what other information should i include? Thanks.
RE: Remove and Reinstall TVH - SOLVED - Added by Jonas Lang over 1 year ago
A couple of questions
What version of LibreELEC do you have installed.
What version of TVH server addon is installed.
What type of tuner are you using with the Chromebox ie DVBS or DVBT or DVBC or something else.
What region are you based in
After you finished scanning the muxes I assume you are then mapping the services that should be present after the scan.
The more information you can supply the better. No need for a new post.
