TVH SAT>IP-server and Plex?
Added by WereCatf - over 2 years ago
Plex does nowadays support SAT>IP and it kinda-sorta finds my Tvheadend. Alas, I have DVB-C tuners and Plex insists on always sending src=1 in the RTSP URL and apparently Tvheadend refuses to play along. If I open an RTSP URL in e.g. VLC and remove src from the URL, it works, but as soon as I add src=1 there, Tvheadend again refuses play along.
Is there some way of making Tvheadend ignore that argument? Why does Tvheadend behave like this to begin with, since src=1 with DVB-C is technically correct? With DVB-C you only have one network, so throwing a hissy fit when the URL refers to it doesn't make any logical sense.

I got impatient and added an option to tvheadend in the SAT>IP-server settings similar to the Drop "fe=" parameter
, only it's Drop "src=" parameter
-- Plex can now successfully add the Tvheadend SAT>IP-server and so far searching for the muxes and channels, watching live video and recording stuff all work!
This is to say: Tvheadend can be used directly as a SAT>IP-source in Plex with my patch.

I am trying to get TVHE to work in Plex on my Nvidia Shield and am having difficulties, this sounds easier than using TVHProxy or Antennas, how do I do it?

Depends.
1) You wait for the patch to get accepted upstream, then wait for someone to compile it for your OS.
2) You compile it yourself.
3) If you are running TVHeadend on Ubuntu 21.10, I could share the package I compiled with my patch in it.

Hi
I'm a big fan of TvHeadend.
But until now I only used Kodi clients.
For a couple of reasons I would like to use Plex clients instead of Kodi:
- a Plex server allow easy hardware transcoding
- I can have a Plex client in a IOS device (Kodi only using jailbreak)
But integrating TvHeadend in Plex using tvhProxy is being a nightmare!
I already was able to import and see my TvHeadend channels in Plex's Live TV but only removing the authentication on TvHeadend (using the --noacl option).
I just found this post claiming that the same can be done without tvhProxy!
Can you please share this package?
Regards

I would also be interested in the package. THX

The patch was accepted into upstream Tvheadend 23 days ago, so all you need to do is just install the latest unstable build of Tvh, like e.g. on https://tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/AptRepositories there's instructions for installing from mmarley's repositories.

Hello,
I just saw this topic .
Thank you for your help because I have been struggling for a while with plex!
however I still have a problem. Once the latest version of tvheadend installed, Plex finds my tuner but it does not see any channels. However they are all mapped
Tvheadend is on a debian 11
Would you have an ideal configuration that I would have missed?
RE: TVH SAT>IP-server and Plex? - Added by WereCatf - about 2 years ago
How can they be mapped, if it doesn't even see any channels? Or do you mean you have channels mapped in Tvh? Plex doesn't use Tvh's channels, so that doesn't help it see any; Plex uses the tuners themselves, not any Tvh-channels.
You need to put in your postal-code in the box and see what channel-providers Plex gives you. If your provider isn't in the list or is missing muxes, you'll need to add one manually via .ini-files in /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Tuner/Shared/scanners/dvbc/transponders (replace dvbc with dvbs or dvbt, depending on what you're using) -- look into the other files in the same directory on how to do it and look in Tvh for the muxes.

Hello ,
Thank you for your answer,
I have mapped channels and set up packages and everything works fine on kodi or other.
There is only under plex or when I enter my postal code, it offers me to make a scan and tells me that it finds nothing.
With tvhproxy on the other hand it saw the channels.
I did a lot of tests yesterday with different installations and the result is the same every time.

Additionally, you may utilize any TV tuner or "source" basketball stars supported by TVHeadend, including DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-C, DVB-T, ATSC, ISDB-T, IPTV, SAT>IP, and HDHomeRun.

Hello
no one has an idea to help me?
RE: TVH SAT>IP-server and Plex? - Added by WereCatf - about 2 years ago
I already told you what you need to do. Plex does not use Tvheadend's channels , it uses the tuners directly over the network, so it's entirely irrelevant whether you have the channels defined in Tvheadend or not. If Plex doesn't have your channel-provider, you need to manually add the ini-file for the provider with the muxes.
RE: TVH SAT>IP-server and Plex? - Added by Benoit Lim about 2 years ago
Thanks but I don't understand the following sentence:
"If Plex doesn't have your channel provider, you need to manually add the ini file for the provider with the muxes."
I must be missing something which makes me ask again

Hello,
Sorry for my reaction, I misread what you wrote.
Thank you for your help and information. I still need your knowledge.
I can't configure the plex ini, can you tell me what I did wrong?

My patch was about fixing DVB-C -- I don't have a DVB-T adapter, I don't even know, if it works correctly or not. If you can't make it work even with a new .ini - file, then you'd probably have to enable debug - logging in Tvheadend and try to see, if there's some communication issue between Plex and Tvheadend.
Also, try making a new ini-file, instead of modifying an existing one, like e.g. 4888.ini, since that doesn't seem to exist yet. I had to make a completely new file myself as well, before my DVB-C provider would show up in Plex's list. Just give the provider a name that doesn't exist yet in any of the other files. I don't really know the proper format for the ini - files, but they seem to follow the description here: https://dvblogic.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_make_a_custom_transponder_file
I know I'm not being of much help, but without a DVB-T adapter, I can't check, if anything actually works or not.

Hello,
No, on the contrary, your help is precious because it asks me the right questions.
I finally found it.
For the next ones: ALWAYS put tvheadend on the machine where plex is. If you want to or can't TvhProxy is mandatory.
Once this is done do not configure Tvheadend (to be confirmed). Plex will find the tuner. It only remains to configure the ini file and Plex should be able to scan the channels.
Problem I put everything on a RPI2 and it's too slow... while tvheadend alone depotes.
On a VM ubuntu mo image sacade in plex and in tvheadend it's impossible to watch ... I don't know how to do it. I have a sheildtv but the porting does not excite anymore ....

I don't mean to sound rude, but I don't understand what you're saying. "sacade", "depotes" -- those aren't English words, for example. I know French people don't get taught English at school or anything, so it's not as easy to learn it as in many other countries.
If you still want help, try to word it a little differently?

yes indeed it's not a very nice attitude....
even if I make some mistakes I try to help at my level

For those who are interested and the French who don't learn anything at school but make the effort to adapt, here is what I wanted to say:
Problem I put everything on a RPI2 and it's too slow... while tvheadend alone works well.
On an ubuntu VM my image jerks in plex and in tvheadend it's impossible to watch .... I don't know how to do it. I have a sheildtv but the porting doesn't excite me anymore ....

I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't complaining, I was saying I understand why you make a few mistakes. You're actually doing better than most French people I've seen online.
