RPI3 - problem: concurrent watch and record fails.
Added by dad dmac almost 3 years ago
To the Developers, thank you for this great application! I've been using it for 5+ years, and your effort is much appreciated.
If the region matters, I live in they USA.
I've seen a similar post about this problem at:
https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/playback-of-file-while-program-is-being-recorded-stops-early/90972
Problem:
I'm looking for suggestions about where to look for the cause of my problem, but I don't expect anyone to be able to telepathically solve it.
A few ago I noticed that if I view a show that is recording, it will stop recording and playing after about 3 minutes. If I do not attempt to view the program as it records, there is no problem.
I have changed various setting in OSMC, but am not sure where to look for problems in TVheadend, if there are any. It is possible the OSMC November 2021 update precipitated my problem, but I don't know where to start.
Not be presumptuous, but if it would help isolate the cause of the problem I can reproduce it with debugging on and send the logs.
My TVheadend version is:
Build: 4.2.8 (2021-02-21T00:53:24+0000)
Kodi version is:
Kodi 19.3, running on OSMC.
Disk space appears to be okay:
Storage space:
1091GiB/250GiB/1833GiB
Thank you for taking time to read, and respond to my question!

Hi,
Can't offer much help, but I have TVH 4.3-1857 running on a Pi4 with OSMC clients [kodi 18], and I don't have this problem.
Can you see anything in the log when this issue happens?

Hi and thanks for your reply!
I'm not sure what to look for in the logs. I do see errors, but I don't know the processes this application performs, so my assessment of the log messages would be highly speculative. .
I need to reproduce the error and review those logs. I'll post them here if nothing jumps out at me.
Again, thank you for your reply!

I found the problem, and it was user error.
While looking for logs, I looked at the Pi config file. The problem was that my mpg decode was not enabled.
I checked the backup file I keep when I make changes and it confirms that the decoder was enabled previously. I guessing that I choose an incorrect option during and upgrade and lost my previous settings.
The concurrent record/view works now, but I have another problem - which I'll post in a new thread.

I have been posting this topic on the OSMC forum, and received a response to the above from Sam Nazarko:
"With Kodi v19, HW decoding of MPEG2 is no longer supported on Raspberry Pi."

I'll post my new question about this and Tvheadend in a separate thread.
