I can only watch HD channels
Added by Mike Porter over 3 years ago
Hi Guys,
Im a newbee so be gentle with me.
I have a rpi 4 8gb, with a Pi TV hat. I have installed debian Buster and Tvheadend.
I have scanned for channels and have found 14 muxes with 116 mapped channels.
For some reason I can only watch the HD ones (very good quality picture) when I try to watch the SD ones the live tv player says "An unknown error occurred" I cant even record the HD channels (although I can watch them)
Also the EPG doesnt have any "title, Extra text or Episode" information in it.
Ive spent two days on this and im pulling my hair out.
Can anyone help me please?
Mike

What player you use?
Some web player?
RE: I can only watch HD channels - Added by Mike Porter over 3 years ago
It’s the live tv player that’s built into tvheadend

Use transcoding to watch non html5 supported codecs,
or simply use KODI with TVH HTSP PVR plugin.

I don't think there's any player built in. When I click on play it offers me a dialog asking what application to start. What version of TVH?
What country are you in? There's no episode data in my UK system.
What do the configuration pages show? e.g. in my case DVB Inputs/Muxes
What does the log show?

There is long time ago based on buildin in used browser HTML5 player
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_video#Browser_support
https://www.encoding.com/html5-video-codec/
But as can be seen mpeg2 is not supported
OMX is not used to transcode to supported format
use some open/libre/alex ELEC image and use HDMI Out

Hi,
Ive attached an image of my install of Tvheadend.
This is the player in the program, on the left is a TV screen and on the right is a button this is where its accessed.
this is version 4.3-1857
As mentioned before I can see all the HD channels but cant see the SD channels.
I also cant record anything.
Any help anyone can give me will be very much appreciated, as at the moment its almost usless to me
Im running this on a rpi with Debian Buster and a Pi TV Hat.

If I need a more up to date version, I have no problems with installing it if someone can tell me where I download it from.
Thank you.

Latest source code is on GitHub.
RE: I can only watch HD channels - Added by Mike Porter over 3 years ago
HI,
Ive already done that and the pi says:
"tvheadend:armhf is already the newest version (4.3-1857~g221c29b40~raspbianbuster)."
RE: I can only watch HD channels - Added by Flole Systems over 3 years ago
Then you didn't clone, build or install the latest version.

From what I understand (which isnt a lot) The version I am using is the latest version for the 64bit processor that im using.
If im wrong in this please tell me where I can get the latest version from.
Thank you for your help.

As I said: Latest version is on GitHub. There is no reason why it can't be compiled for arm64.

Ive just found this:
https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend
im just looking up how to build from source now as ive never done it before
RE: I can only watch HD channels - Added by saen acro over 3 years ago
Thats what Flole Systems try to say, is that you must make alone latest version from source with is in Github.
You use developer board, so no need to be hard for you to make package and install it.
Some manual

Its in the software itself, not in the browser. I dont have a viewer on my browser
RE: I can only watch HD channels - Added by saen acro over 3 years ago
You need some beginer basics with HTML5
player with is in browser = web player
Software player is something as VLC or KODI
maby this video can make you more informated about web player's
https://youtu.be/yY6XnbWnK4o
when watch video
right click ot web player inside TVH tab in your browser and select "show controls"
then mistery of web player will shine.

Just install Kodi in your windows PC and use TVH as server.
Put some 5Amp charger to RPi,
put some active cooling,
conect to lan and forget it in some angle
