Strange Characters in EPG
Added by jack swan over 4 years ago
Hi,
New to TV headend and have successfully got it set up and recordings working.
However, I've noticed that the EPG when viewed in the browser via http://xxxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9981/ shows some strange characters. Is there a way to see which character set is being used / specify the correct one? Or is the problem likely caused by something else? I'm just using the standard UK OTA grabber.
I attached a picture of what I see.
Thanks for any pointers.

I've also just checked in Kodi, and the characters come across there too.
As you can see from the image... it's not all channels... just some?

This is UK Freeview (DVB-T)?
The HD channels use Huffman coding in their EPG which will appear as garbage unless the decoder is used.
Try enabling the UK Freeview EPG grabber.

You nailed it... Now it's perfect.
Thanks for taking the time to post.
I don't suppose you know whether there's any nicer layout program guides for the native TVheadend interface do you?
I've tried the TVHclient APP I found in the APP store, and that looks quite good... also Kodi lays it out nicely... but I'd quite like to be able to get that kind of view when using the web browser...I like all the functionality within the browser :-)
Thanks again

If you have a web server with PHP handy there's https://github.com/dave-p/TVHadmin
A new project, very much work-in-progress, is https://github.com/PoulKalff/angularJS This runs in the web browser using Javascript.
