TVHeadend vs xteve - Creating failover feeds
Added by Chip Means over 4 years ago
All,
Brand new here. I have heard alot about TVH, but I have yet to find someone that can explain the benefits over xteve, so I came here to the community.
Here is what I am currently doing and where I would like to be
Currently...
I am a Plex user. Server is remote, hosted by Hetzners and I am using xteve to emulate an HDhomerun. I have subscription to 2 different IPTV providers and I am using xteve to number the channels and present them to the "Live TV" section of plex. One provider offers me 4 concurrent streams and another offers only 1, with the latter only being about 10-15 channels just to fill in gaps from my first provider
Future...
I would like to register 2-3 accounts with provider 1 (12 streams) and potentially use TVH to manage the 3 M3U files. For instance, I start HBO on M3u1 and once the 4 connection limit is reached, TVH plays a "backup" channel on M3u2, but the user would see no difference. To the user, it is still channel 300, HBO and it plays seamlessly.
Option B - along the same lines - I could have 3 separate providers and map all 3 providers to the same channel number. In the event a single provider was having issue, I could turn them off in TVH, or adjust priority. so in this scenario, I would have 100 channel numbers with 3 mappings each.
Is this possible with THV? Currently xteve does not allow mapping multiple steams to one channel number.
