Uk freeview HD displaying faultlessly on Fire TV + Kodi. What's changed?

Added by Paul Hey about 5 years ago

After months of messing with my first gen Amazon fire TV box + Kodi as a frontend, and eventually giving up due to problems with interlaced content, today I fired it up again, and to my surprise it appeared to be playing back Freeview HD content faultlessly.

I'm at a little bit of a loss as to why it is now behaving. As I was running Krypton still, I deleted Kodi and reinstalled Leia, followed by the TVH plugin. This resulted in quite noticable combing, which was once again gone when reverting back to Krypton. Not only that, but I had always had problems with audio sync, especially with the HD channels, but this also was completely gone.

I'm fairly sure that the 2 recordings I've made are interlaced (if anybody can point me to a concrete test to confirms this it would be great).

My setup is as follows:

HTS Tvheadend 4.2.9~pre+201911151752-0~built201911152017~git5bdcfd8~ubuntu16.04.1 + T230 DVBT/T2 tuner

Kodi Krypton 17.6

Fire OS 5.2.7.2(648594820)

Fire TV Home Version 6.1.8.1-012

I'm now tempted to try my fire TV stick to see if this also now works.

When viewing on my PC, the following info is displayed regarding the media: (I realise this info is not from the firestick, but may give info relating to the media which is relavent)

Video Decoder : ff-h264(SW)
Pixel format : yuv420p
Deinterlace method : yadif=1:-1:
