Best EPG Grabber Module Settings for North America (US) ATSC
Added by Sterling Rorden over 5 years ago
I'm currently using zap2epg for my XMLTV data with the EIT EPG and PSIP ATSC grabbers enabled also. Initially I had the XMLTV grabber with the highest priority, the PSIP grabber 2nd, and the EIT grabber 3rd. However zap2epg doesn't seem to be grabbing episode information for certain shows (i.e., The Late Show With Stephen Colbert). I noticed that if I use my TV tuner the OTA information has the episode information. After some experimentation (I disabled the XMLTV grabber) I noticed that the OTA information was inconsistent. Sometimes it would show the episode information other times it wouldn't.
Should I have EIT grabber enabled?
Should I have the PSIP grabber enabled?
The higher the priority number the higher the priority (i.e., 1 is the lowest priority and 10 is the highest), correct?
What settings would give me the most information?
Tvheadend version 4.3-1428
Running on Android 8.0 on a Nvidia Shield TV through Kodi using the Kodi Tvheadend PVR frontend.

HDHomerun Tuner HDR5-4US with firmware 20180817

Hi Sterling,
I used a setup similar to what you are using and I switched to webgrab plus. I disabled all of the tvheadend internal grabbers except the external one used for webgrab. I have webgrab installed on xubuntu 18.04 with a crontab that updates the epg twice a day or on boot up. Furthermore, I have the cron set within tvheadend to update twice a day to grab the xmls. I did a lot of research and tracked down all the xmls for every station that my iptv provides and my local USA stations that I receive from the tuner card. It works perfectly within Kodi!! I do not have to touch or update a thing. I have no freezing, buffering and webgrab shows all the episodes. I believe that the ini script has to be written for that specific website to grab the episode information correctly. I use tv.com ini. I have requested a siteini from webgrab for zaptoit and never got a response.
I am currently working on a crontab that will shut down the computer at night to save on electricity. My motherboard has an alarm clock to turn the computer on but I am having problems with the time changing within the bios.
best of luck,
Lisa

Thanks for the suggestion but as far I can tell there isn't wabgrab plus version that runs on Android.
I contacted the zap2epg developer about issue. He has been very responsive and modified the add-on so it can be set to refresh the cache. This solved the problem.
I disabled the EIT grabber since it appears it isn't for ATSC broadcasts.
I left the PSIP grabber enabled at a lower priority.
However, I would be interested in a standalone grabber like webgrab plus if I could find one that runs on Android TV.
Thanks
Sterling
