You don't have to, I've been running like this for a year now and it works great.

The challenge may be your tv tuner device, I use hdhomerun so it uses network connection and no configuration needed at all. If you have a PCI device you are out of luck, if its USB you can use https://www.virtualhere.com.

Best of luck!

I have a Digital Devices DVB-S2 Quad Tuner (PCI-E) :/ Is there no way to pass PCI-E from Win10 Host to a Debian Guest System?

There is no problem to use TVH in Windows 10 (not so native but)

go to Store and search for Ubuntu and install 16.04 or 18.04
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/ubuntu/9nblggh4msv6
fallow steps to install it.

Result ;)

lsb_release -a && uname -a

There is no PCI passthrough yet, so need to take streams via playlist with Auto-network in TVH

To my knowledge there is no way to pass any PCI devices to anything on Windows 10 :(

Other than getting another tuner I see no other way than to replace your operating system on your computer, and if I understand you correctly, that's not an option.

Far fetched maybe but... IF you can install a SatIP server on your computer that exports the tuners as SatIP, then Tvheadend could pick that up as a tuner - should work, but how to do that I have no idea what so ever.

Hyper-V and Windows Subsystem for Linux are different things

Hyper-V work on

Requirements
  • Windows 10 Enterprise, Professional, or Education
  • 64-bit Processor with Second Level Address Translation (SLAT).
  • CPU support for VM Monitor Mode Extension (VT-c on Intel CPU's).
  • Minimum of 4 GB memory.
The Hyper-V role cannot be installed on Windows 10 Home.

why you need this unstable stuff

RE: Please compile a Windows Version - Added by Joe User about 6 years ago

Depending on why you are dependent on win10, it may be possible to do the reverse - install linux and run win10 in a virtual machine.

RE: Please compile a Windows Version - Added by Rene Wagler about 6 years ago

I need Windows 10 because of MadVR. Installing Linux and running Win10 in VM takes too mutch time for me. I have many server software running on Win10. maybe i use DVB Viewer PRO for Sat IP and Virtualboy runnign debian and TVHeadend. the i connect TVHeadend via SatIP to my TV Cards

+1

or VMWARE ESXi

Depending on your budget, you could replace the PCI card with a SATIP box such as a Digibit R1 at 130 euro/pounds. I don't have one, but people on this forum rate it. That would then allow you to run a virtual environment/hyper-v/virtualbox or whatever. Or even couple it with a $20 S905X android box running LibreElec with kodi and tvheadend.

I confirm (Ubuntu 16.04 on Win 10 Home + unstable TVH + HDHomerun tuner) works. Strangely, Ubuntu 18.04 or stable TVH didn't work.
