Filesystem for recordings
Added by Josu Lazkano over 6 years ago
Hellos,
I have a tvheadened server running for 2 users, each user has it's own disk to store the recordings.
I need to change one of the disk and I want to know your experience with filesystems.
Actually I use EXT3 for both disks, I read that XFS could be a good option for large files, recordings use to be big.
I use the recording disk just for recordings, I don't store nothing else.
I will really appreciate your opinion and recomendations about which filesystem use.
Kind regards.

I used EXT4 on a slowish X86 platform and found there to be a slight delay on deleting a recording, changing to XFS removed that delay.
Bonne chance, Strebor

Thanks Strebor,
Do you schedule any fragmentation process?
xfs_fsr -v /dev/sdX1
Could be great to know others experience with different fs.
Regards.

defrag....I've never bothered as the drive 4Tb has never been more than 60% full. I sometimes record four or five HD streams whilst watching another and don't experience problems.
