Anyone running TVH on a Rock64?
Added by A L over 6 years ago
Hello.
I am tempted to have a go at running TVH on a headless ARM device and am rather tempted by the Rock64.
Has anyone on here had any experience with doing this, please?
If so, what was general impression of the device?

I've successfully run Tvheadend on an Odroid C2. While it is not an A64 chip, it is ARM64 (Amlogic S905). Runs fine, and without problems.

Hello,
I want to try the Rock64 as a tvheadend server too, it really looks great.
Could be possible to transcode streams with this hardware?
Kind regards.

My current server is a big mATX celeron-based build and contains my three HDDs and an SSD.
I hate leaving it on 24/7 as the vast majority of the time I am using it just for streaming Live TV or making/watching recordings (a few hours a night during the week).
I figured that if I use something like a Rock64 for all my recording/liveTV, I could just turn on the server whenever it was actually needed.
However, I have come across this:
Admittedly, rather expensive, but would seem an even better choice - just swap my current server for one of these.
Would save me space, noise and a fair bit of electricity too.
What do you think?
I am a bit worried about buying from such a small company - what if they disappear and my purchase develops a fault?

Invest in solar panel(s) then this unproductive and unsupported devices.

I hope that is a tongue-in-cheek response, saen acro - why the lack of love for these ARM devices?

I don't actually remember starting this thread (though it was over a year ago).
Thanks for your comments. I ended up going with an Odroid HC2 - has been absolutely flawless.
