Tvheadend

Hello everyone,

I am on a connection with low bandwidth at the moment. The server I am connecting to has sufficient Up and Download capacity as well as processing power and memory to stream HD channels. Unfortunately the connection here is not fast enough to get my TV Stream without interruptions. As HD is causing many issues, I've switched to only SD Channels for now, using the default matroska profile. However, every 5-10 seconds the video and audio stucks for about 1 second. As Tvheadend is able to transcode video, I would like to use a codec that doesn't require as much bandwidth. As there are thousands of options offered, I'm not sure which one fits best. Also documentation of the transcoding function is mot really good for people who don't know much about codecs and the bandwidth requirements of those. Scaling down isn't an option for me, I'd rather have the full quality stream a little compressed.

Could someone try to help me out with a little explanation on what those codecs do and which one is just a little less bandwidth expensive as matroska?
