Request for help with tuners.
Added by Paraic McDonagh over 7 years ago
Hi All,
I am hoping to get some help with the installation of my TVHeadend PC /Tuners.
My Setup:
Ubuntu 17.04 (Current desktop version)AMD x64.
running:
tvheadend
Oscam
Webgrab++
Hardware:
3 x HDs - 1 With Ubuntu & Windows dual boot, 2x NTFS drives with multimedia content including Recorded TV/Movies etc.
2 x Tuners - A TBS-6981 for DVB-S/S2 and an August 210 USB stick for DVB-T/T2 which is a clone of the Mygica T220.
I'm not a total noob when it comes to Linux but I haven't much exposure to device drivers before now.
Anyway to cut to the chase, I've got everything running above except the August USB device. Initially, before I installed the TBS drivers, the TBS tuner was reported as a Conexant twin tuner and the August as a Geniatech/Mygica T220 (can't remember exactly which but apparently this is the correct driver for the August device and already included with Ubuntu).
The trouble is, when I install the TBS drivers, the TBS tuner then works correctly but the August device is no longer reported when I do a:dmesg | grep dvb
At one point I lost the TBS drivers after a kernel update and Ubuntu reverted back to the original drivers. Reinstalling them made the USB device vanish again.
So the question is, what am I doing wrong? How can I install the TBS driver without losing the Geniatech/Mygica device?
Thanks in advance.

Just for experiment /am not sure is it will work/
Copy module from old kernel, /if you not uninstall it/
with don't have tbs linux_media installed and copy to current kernel
make backup of replaced modulesto see with is module use command usb-devices / lspci -k for pci devices/
Sorry Saen, Added to my woes, I actually ran out of disk space from building and deleting media_build / the new kernel, and had major problems booting-up. So I deleted the previous kernels in recovery mode from the terminal, emptied the trash etc. in order to make enough disk space to be able to boot back into the desktop.

If you are running Ubuntu and your tuner is causing problems or not working you can get the latest builds from the LinuxTV folks here:
https://github.com/b-rad-NDi/Ubuntu-media-tree-kernel-builder
There is directions to a ppa that will automatically build you a new kernel with the latest upstream LinuxTV media tree drivers. It worked for me. I am using an ancient netbook with tvheadend on Lubuntu 17.04 with a kernel from above and it got my WinTV-dualHD working with both tuners. No patching, no building or compiling drivers kernels by hand, just install the ppa and the two virtual packages and they will build you a new kernel on the fly with the latest drivers.
They seem to have packaged this up for Ubuntu back to 16.04. They will be updating weekly, or as soon as new kernels are released. Hauppauge is the sponsor of this "unsupported untrusted" ppa so you can probably trust it.
They bring the latest newest drivers for all media hardware from LinuxTV, not just their own stuff. It worked for me. It might work for you if your hardware is listed as supported by linux but does not work in your Ubuntu machine.
