Kodi and Season Episode Information - Best Source of EPG Data for UK Freeview Listings.

Added by A L over 7 years ago

Hi,

I am a bit of a stickler for having details of the season and episode number of any TV program that I am watching.

I am based in the UK and have DVB-T tuners only, so I only need freeview listings.

I am still very new to TVH started with the OTA grabber for EPG. As far as I can tell, series record seems to work well, so I assume that TVH is grabbing CRIDS information.

This is all well and good but the details that appear in Kodi's guide are a bit iffy - sometimes full Season and Episode information is given, sometimes only the Episode number is given (e.g. 3/30) and sometimes nothing at all is given.

I then had a go with the Schedules Direct grabber (tv_grab_zz_sdjson) but the information is not as good as I had hoped - I expected to have full Seasons and Episode information for every program, but it seems that this is not the case.

Is there anything else I can do to get a full and complete EPG?

If I use the Schedules Direct grabber instead, am I at risk of losing the series link information or is this provided by Schedules Direct too?

Bit of an update on this.

I was a bit hasty in dismissing the tv_grab_zz_sdjson grabber - it seems that I did not give the grabber enough time to fully populate the guide.

My guide is now populated with full episode and season information for the large majority of programs - it is not 100% perfect but it is very good.

Unfortunately, series link does appear to have been lost - if I go into the TVH WebGUI and click on a program now, instead of getting the "Record Series" button, I get "Autorec".

I am in a bit of a dilemma now, do I prefer a fuller EPG or the series link facility? I assume that I cannot have both.

In reality, is Autorec perhaps 99% as useful as series link anyway?

For example, as long as the title of the show does not change, Autorec should record all shows with that title but with an episode not already recorded.

The only time I can think I had a problem was when my other half was recording Big Brother. On certain days, you would have the main show "Big Brother", but then later that day you would have "Big Brother: Live Eviction" - I am imagining that the Autorec function would not pick this up but series link would.

I'm also in the UK and just recently migrated to TVHeadend from Mythtv, I'm also keen to have the episode/season information so that the recordings integrate well with Kodi.

I was originally using an OTA grabber but the season/episode data wasn't very good, I moved to Schedules Direct and was very impressed with the data I was getting, the recordings are now being picked up by Kodi without any problems.

I'd suggest reviewing your Schedules Direct setup to make sure its being picked up correctly, if you're not getting the results you expect let me know and I can try and help.

The only problem I have with SD and TVHeadend is the program category, I can't filter the tv guide to only show movies/films.

Thanks Philip.

It is strange - the longer I leave things, the more populated the EPG becomes - it seems that it does take quite a while to sort itself out.

One thing I cannot work out is how to change the number of days to be grabbed - it seems to be less than a week at the moment. Could you perhaps advice how to change this please?

Have you also found that using Schedules Direct instead of OTA has meant that you have lost series link functionality? If so, do you think of this as any big loss?
