HD Star SAT Tuner on FreeSAT LibreElec HTS Tvheadend 4.1.1945 ~ LibreELEC Tvh-addon v7.0.102
Added by Seth Rogers almost 8 years ago
Hi wanted to ask for some help seting up a new tuner with TVH
I recently purchased a HD Star tuner (Satellite tuner) to use with TVHeadEnd, I have a couple of TVHeadend Servers in the house both used Terrestrial DVB tuners and work flawlessly. I added the new Satellite tuner to one of the servers. I connected a working Satellite connections (was previously plugged into a Sony TV Sat part of an OCTO LNB + Distribution box that sends the SAT signal around the house. We have 2 other SAT tuners both working fine so I think the SAT wiring / signal is working. I had read that the new HD Star units shipped with a V3 PCB that was indistinguishable at the OS level from the V2 board. Hence the drivers for this HD Star V3 PCB though complete and working had not made it into the release builds / kernel. With this in mind I patched my LibreElec with the Crazycat drivers from here https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread-130.html. I installed the .TAR updated and restarted the server which had a working TVH server with a DVB-T tuner. After the restart the web interface was not available, checking the log its was an OpenSSL shared object problem. Updating TVH fixed the problem. In Web UI I could see a new tuner under "Configuration>TV Adaptors" called Montage Technology DS3000 : DVB-S #0. I created a "Network" under Configuration>DVB Inputs>Networks called FreeSAT (A UK FTA service on Astra 28.2E) I selected the PRe-defined Muxes "> 28.2E:Astra" and "Orbital Position" of "28.2E : Astra 2A/2C/2E/2F/Eutelsat 28A" Under Advanced setting Network Discovery is enabled. Under "Configuration>Muxes" I see 88 muxes and TVH scans them but the scan result is "FAIL"
Looking at the log file I see scan no data, failed

Stop Tvheadend & try scanning using wscan, if that also fails you know it's the tuner. If it works then check the details of the transponders. You may want to delete the complete transponder list and manually add the home transponders. To delete use the paging bar & change it to all, press ctrl+A & hit delete from the toolbar.
The Freesat & Sky home transponders are (exactly):
- Sky : 11778000 V 27500000 QPSK 2/3
- Freesat : 11425000 H 27500000 QPSK 2/3
With mux discovery & the position set Tvheadend should have no issues finding the other transponders.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Appears to be FIXED Longer version below..
As advised I deleted all the muxes for the SAT tuner, and the FreeSat network I had created.
1) Created a new DBV-S Network FreeSat: No preset muxes, Orbital position 28.2E : Astra 2A/2C/2E/2F/Eutelsat 28A other setting left in default state.
2) Created one new mux all default except Frequency=11425000, Symbol rate (Sym/s)=27500000, Polarisation=H, modulation=QPSK FEC=2/3 other setting left in default state (so Rolloff reports NONE, Pliot reports AUTO and PLS mode reports Root. Charset is blank and ISI -1 PLS Code 1
Waited and Scan Status PEND, Scan Result NONE no scan activity in the TVH log last item was be deleting the muxes.
I updated the version of Kodi I had installed, to the beta3 release of LibreElec for RP as this has a patch for my tuner (HD Star V3 PCB).
Gym:~ # grep Kodi .kodi/temp/kodi.log | head -3 19:33:34.895 T:1961365504 NOTICE: Starting Kodi (17.0 Git:a10c504). Also uninstalled an old TVHeadend 4.0 (it was inactive). I also upgraded my running version of TVH 4.2 in line with the recommended version for LE 8 Beta3 version details below
Gym:~ # grep VERSION_ID /etc/os-release VERSION_ID="8.0" Gym:~ # lsb_release -irc LibreELEC (official) - Version: 7.95.3 Gym:~ # tvheadend -v tvheadend: version 4.1.2415 ~ LibreELEC Tvh-addon v8.1.109
I disabled TVHeadEnd Service in the Kodi using the Ad On GUI this stopped the process. I found W_SCAN (unofficial.addon.pro) and ran w_scan -fs -s S19E2 -u 0:1400:A
If there are specific items for invocation of W_SCAN that you want me to run, please let me know. I got the parameters for w_scan from https://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/W_scan#Scanning_DVB-S.2FS2_.28Astra_19.2east.2C_vdr-1.7.x.29
Output looks like this

The OS update appears to have fixed the issue as the FreeSAT (and SKY) channels are rolling in as the autotune runs its course. I'll let this complete and check everything is stable (I will check the USB voltages on the RP and current to both tuners for stability etc) but I think things are looking up! Thanks again for all your help.
