Help Needed - Master Tuner Problem with EPG

Added by asnail boy1 about 8 years ago

Hi,
I've been using tvheadend a long while.

My old setup was an esxi server, with VM running kodibuntu, with a tbs twin tuner and a techno-trend budget single tuner + cheap gpu passedthrough. along with some other VMS.
it worked pretty flawless, although the odd time i had to restart the tvheadend service as some channels did not display.
I put these down some VM issues.

I've now gone with a physical server using a Dell T20 microserver, with a quad core xeon.

As the server does not support pcie 1.0a i purchased a TBS 6909 8 tuner card.

The card works perfect in it's default state (with the opensource driver), in which you can connect it to a quad lnb (or quattro) and watch record on 8 separate transponders.

unfortunately i need to use it in a different way - i have 3 sats - 28.2, 19.2 and 13e on one dish, each with quad lnbs going to diseqc switches.
Those 4 outputs go into each of the 4 inputs in the TBS 6909.

To do this i need to put the card in Mode 0, which allows the use of disqec like normal.

This potentially can allow 8 transponders at most, but mostly likely not as it works as if you are just using a splitter (or a loop through as used to be on some old dvb cards),. (need to match polarity/band).

To get this to work i had to setup tvheadend so that each even tuner uses the previous tuner as a master.

Like this

but there is an issue - for some reason, and i believe it has to do with the master/slave tuner thing - when it's doing an epg scan, normally channel switching won't overide it, and i'm getting "not enough tuners" sort of error, or no tuner available (forgot the exact words).

It's also the same for trying to force a scan of channels, the EPGscan won't get overidden.

Does anyone know of a solution for this?

Many thanks

managed to sort this -

for anyone else with the issue -

Only set the Master Tuners with OTA EPG

i'm now happy with my 6909 purchase :)
