Can TVH instance share its internal tuners to another TVH instance?

Added by Steve Black about 8 years ago

I currently have a Ubuntu system with TVH and internal Hauppauge tuners, and am in the process of implementing a Synology system with TVH and HDHomerun tuners. I am wondering if there is a way to have my Ubuntu TVH expose its tuners so that they could be controlled by the Synology TVH. I am also open to other solutions that would give the Synology TVH the ability to record signals from the Ubuntu tuners.

It seems like I have seen hints of such functionality somewhere around the site, but my searches aren't turning up anything of interest.

Either export your current tuners using SAT>IP or import the muxes manually :)

Those sound like good ideas. Can you point me to any info on how to accomplish those things? (TVH 4.1-2190)

Go to: Config -> General -> SAT>IP Server

1) Enable SAT->IP Server. Set the port, I'd use 9983 so you don't have to worry about permissions if you're running tvheadend as non-root.

While on the same tab..

2) Set mux handling to "Reject" or "Reject exact match" (this stops tvh from keeping duplicate muxes in a network).
3) Enter the number of tuners you want to "Export" for each type.
4) Save.

Now go to Networks.. Config -> DVB Inputs -> Networks.

5) Click the network you want to export, click Edit and enter a SAT>IP source number (any is fine).

On your other Tvheadend machine, it should have discovered the newly exported tuner (should be shown in TV Adapters) - use [Discover more SAT>IP servers] or restart if they aren't displayed.. You treat these tuners like any other tuner (they require their own network etc).

HTH.

Aha! I looked EVERYWHERE - except the General tab.

Thanks, getting it set up now.

Oh I forgot to mention, on the other machine, make sure you set the source sat>ip number for the tuner(s), it must match the server network value.

Thanks for the help. I think I got it as close as I can for now. I got ATSC-C tuners to show up, but not the ATSC-T that I need. It occurs to me that maybe the tuners that are configured and in use locally cannot be shared this way. In any case, I will consider another attempt after I get the basic Synology setup working and fully switched over so the Hauppauge tuners are truly idle. I'll try to remember to update here with those results.

Again, thanks a bunch. You've been very helpful.

Can I export tuners/networks over the internet? If so, where can you point in the client the server IP address?

Is the tuner throughput lighter ou heavier than IPTV stream? I belieave they are heavier, since then will carry more than one channel stream (all channels on the mux).

Thx
