User Interface DVR Enhancements
Added by Neil Carter over 8 years ago
Greetings:
I'm currently using version 4.0.8-3~gc870eb9~wheezy. If these enhancements have already been implemented in more current versions, this is all moot.
I've been using Tvheadend for about three years now, with almost entirely wonderful results. When my current version was pushed out for my system, I struggled with getting things working again, this forum was crucial in getting that accomplished. Thank you!!
My system is a Raspberry Pi Model B+, using a Hauppage 950Q USB tuner. Everything is currently working fine, so I'm not necessarily looking for help.
However, I would like to make a few user interface enhancement suggestions. Maybe other users will not like these, but I think most should find it easier to use Tvheadend as a DVR with these suggestions, all related to the Add window for adding a program to the schedule, which is what I seem to do most often:
1. the Start and Stop Time 'date' fields are rather cryptic for US users, maybe there should be an option to select the date format to use. I usually get along with the DD.MM.YYYY input format okay (it's curiously changed to MM/DD/YYYY when the program add is complete and it's displayed in the Upcoming/Current Recordings), but the fact that the DD 'field' has to be two digits while the MM can be only one digit is frustrating - can this be made consistent, one way or the other?
2. the Start and Stop Time 'time' field is very frustrating when it automatically fills with the current time. This always has to be deleted and the desired time entered. I admit that I like the select-a-time look-up system, very convenient.
3. the Extra Start Time field is very confusing/frustrating. First, it seems to be completely ignored, as the Start number is always 30 seconds. Now, I understand this number is supposed to be adjustable in the Configuration/Recording/Digital Video Recorder Profiles screen. I have yet to get this to make any difference. I'd like to get this to zero (like it used to be).
4. once a Start Time 'date' has been entered, could we have it automatically be entered into the Stop Time 'date' field? Yes, this would have to be changed if your recording wrapped into the next day, but that isn't a problem all that often, is it?
5. the Channel field also has a look-up system, but this one is inconsistent when the system is configured to have multiple channels using the same first number, like 4.1, 4.2, 41.1, 41.2, and 41.3. It usually seems to insist that 4.1 has to be used and this has to be closely watched and forced to use the channel I need.
One thing I just remembered that's NOT in the Add window. Would it be possible to have the system remember the columns we want to see in the Upcoming/Current Recordings, Finished Recordings, and Failed Recordings pages?
That's all for now.
Comments anyone?
Thanks!
