Is my current setup to much for tvheadend
Added by Rob Mccombe over 8 years ago
Hi all hope everyone is good :)
I run tvheadend on a pretty high spec computer but this main question is regarding the hard drive.
I run it as a server with ubuntu server 14.04 and stream to all my other devices.
I install ubuntu onto a crucial 128gb m500 ssd and then I have a Seagate pipeline hd which I took out of a a TiVo box I had and that I use for recordings.
My question is could I install server onto the hd pipeline and also record to that without any issues.
The reason I ask is because when I placed the hd pipeline into a computer with Windows, Windows ran very slow on that drive and I would just like to know if it would be ok with ubuntu instead.
Thanks
Rob

My system uses Ubuntu Server 14.04, and has a WD red drive (which I suspect is similar to the seagate drive you propose). Ubuntu is installed on one partition and I have a separate partition for tvheadend's recordings. Its fast enough to manage 3 simultaneous recordings whist streaming recordings to different PCs.
(The CPU is also very old and low spec).
I would guess that what you suggest would work
