Tvheadend Logos - Better/Seamless integration + making it user friendly - Can it be done?
Added by Morten Stensgaard almost 9 years ago
Hi Tvheadend Community.
I have now been using Tvheadend for more than a year with mostly success and stability on Openelec 5 + 6.
One thing I do come across, that I find a bit difficult is the Logos setup - Recently I had to reinstall I found my self using more than an hour to get it working again.
Are there any ideas or plans for this setup process to improve?
My shoutout here is to start a discussion, if there is interest in improving this form a development perspective and how it should be done.
End goal: Make it user friendly! - Or lets even aim higher - Lets make it work seamless for the ordinary user!
Please give your insight and comments on your experience with it.
Current Logo wiki: http://tvheadend.readthedocs.org/en/stable/webui/config_general/
Picons:
In theory I totaly get the idea - Especially around making a seamless integration - But implementation wise it is a nightmare currently! Unless you have quite some IT skills, you can forget all about it! Personally I have not given this a try - but on the other hand, I do not have a lot of spare time with fiddling with this.
Pro: Future hope: Get seemless/automatic integration with the Picons open source repository: https://github.com/picons/picons-source
Cons: Dependant on proper contributions on Icons and picons mappings
Current state: Way to nerdy for the average user!
Channel Icon Path:
Pros: Quite simple if you have the icon files locally + proper filenaming.
Cons: As far as I and wiki am aware, this only supports HTTP paths and local file paths - There is no Samba or NFS share paths support?
Does not support spaces and/or special karakters like the Æ,Ø,Å
Must match 1:1 on channelname - So the first time you'll need to renmae your file one by one
Potential risk of breaking when your DVB-provider changes channelnames broadcasted.
Current state: Somewhat easy, but does require quite some manual procedures(SSH & renaming etc.) for getting it working.
So what do you think? Should this be improved for a better user experience?
And are there any developers/contributers out there, which wants to co-op for getting the actual coding work done (sorry, I am no coder - but I will happily contribute with ideas, design, architecture and testing).
