Is there any way to set a timer to "record" a channel but not actually save it to the hard drive?

I have kind of a weird situation where when the temperature gets really cold I sometimes need to "warm up" a satellite LNB for about 20 minutes before it works reliably. Right now the only way I know to do that is to set up a timed recording for that channel before a program I actually want to record. That seems to work but it creates a 20 minute recording on my hard drive that I don't need or want. My original thought was to create a new recording profile and set the Recording System Path to /dev/null but then I realized that won't work because that field expects a directory, not a filename (also I read in a few online pages that trying to do something like that could really screw up Linux by overwriting the "null" device with a file). So what I am wanting to know is whether there is any way to set a timer so that TVHeadEnd activates and tunes the LNB, just as if it were going to record a program off of that channel, but doesn't actually record anything?
