New tuner
Added by Pepe Suriano almost 9 years ago
Hi to all, I am going to buy a new tuner, and I am watching for the different choices, I saw TBS5520 (multistandard tuner with DVBT/T2, DVBC, DVBS/S2 and ISDB-T) and it looks good, but I only know about TBS, I have no idea if another brand could have a similar or even better choice
I will use it with a raspberry pi that I use as HTPC with kodi and tvheadend, so support with tvheadend and ARM arch will be needed
Any suggestions?
Thanks to all

I've some bad news, TBS and ARM are two words that don't go together, their drivers do not support ARM at all. In this case I recommend you purchase separate tuners.
Also be aware that the Pi has limited USB bandwidth which it also shares with Ethernet so don't be surprised if you watch and record (to an external hard drive) and you notice CC errors. Below is a list of things it may struggle with.
- High bitrate streams can sometimes error, especially if you want to watch and record more than one.
- I think you'll get away with playing one stream locally and recording one.
- Streaming over the network while watching should be fine provided the streams aren't too large.
The most I've streamed over Ethernet from the Pi is about 45mbps (and even then it was glitching) the size of the avg sat mux but it was also receiving the mux via the same bus too.
