Is there any frontend software other than Kodi/XBMC for Linux users?

I'm wondering if there is anything other than Kodi/XBMC that will run under Ubuntu Linux and will work with TVHeadEnd. I installed Kodi on a new Ubuntu 14.04 LTS system, and it is Isengard (15.1) and it appears that the TVHeadEnd plugin is rather broken, in that you can't skip within a program reliably (reported in http://github.com/kodi-pvr/pvr.hts/issues/92 but the bug hasn't even been assigned to anyone yet, so I doubt there is a quick fix on the horizon). Also I would like to be able to connect to two different TVHeadEnd backends simultaneously and it appears that the Kodi addon won't let you do that. I know TVHeadEnd has been around for a while and I have a hard time believing that Kodi is the only thing that people can use play live and recorded TV from TVHeadEnd, so I'll ask, are there any other decent options for a frontend that will work with TVHeadEnd?
