On-the-roof tuner solutions?
Added by Maury Markowitz over 9 years ago
I live outside the Toronto area and have access to two sets of ATSC channels, those from Buffalo and those from Toronto. Geometry dictates I use two antennas, pointed around 180 and 260 degrees. Buffalo is weak, so my current solution of muxing the coax into a distribution amp and then 15 meters to my TV. It works, on and off, kinda.
I strongly suspect I would get a MUCH better outcome if I attached a tuner to each antenna, right on (or near) the roof. So I started looking at things like Tablo and HomeRun, but they only work if you have one feed. I could buy two, but the software side doesn't really support that solution, and the're pretty expensive.
So my dream is to put a USB tuner right on the back of the antenna. I'd have two, so that points me here to Tvheadend, which seems to be the only solution for multiple tuners. But since the tuners are on the roof, I either have to run the USB cables into the house or... RasperyPi maybe?
Has anyone out there done anything like this, or have other solutions for dealing with weak signals more simply?
