Tvheadend

Hello people, I have an idea but I'm not sure that it is doable: I have a Raspbian server running in Italy with a perfectly working TVHeadend. I access my server from XBMC here in Germany where I live (and I successfully stream my italian TV and for this I'm extremely thankful to the TVHeadend community!!)
Now the question: on the Raspbian server in Italy I have some video which I would like to play on my XBMC in Berlin. I tried to add a resource as SFTP and I can access the files and start them, but I guess the protocol is too complex for streaming purposes because it hangs for buffering after a couple of seconds. That's why I thought I might use the HTSP protocol of TVHeadend to stream them (like if they were some kind of recording) but I can't get this done.
Should I configure something on TVHeadend or is it not doable at all?
