UHD 28.2E
Added by Bengt Madeberg almost 10 years ago
Tried to get the UHD channel on Astra 2A.
12441V 29500 3/4
DVB-S2 QPSK HEVC
VLC 2.1.5 plays audio but no video.
Kodi 14.1 plays nothing. Tested both HTSP and HTTP mode.
Use HTS Tvheadend 3.9.2426~gc3ec4b1
Is it Tvh or the players ? Both player shows a test video file in HEVC 4096x1720 without any problems...

TVH can actually only forward HEVC video without repacking required for HTSP and Matroska. Just use the MPEG-TS passthrough muxer (profile) for HTTP streaming.

Ok. I think I have MPEG-TS passthrough muxer. Everything seems to be ok, audio but no video (in VLC).
subscribing on "Astra UHD Demo", weight: 100, adapter: "TurboSight TBS 6983 DVBS/S2 frontend : DVB-S #0", network: "Astra2", mux: "12441H", provider: "SES ASTRA", service: "Astra UHD Demo", hostname="192.168.0.65", username="test3", client="VLC/2.1.5 LibVLC/2.1.5"

this is what i did
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:strukturag/libde265
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install vlc-plugin-libde265

If you click to info icon in the service grid (configuration) for this service, then you should see HEVC for the video PID. If you don't see it, then the video won't be forwarded even for the passthrough. I did few tests for 19.2E and 23.5E test services and ffplay can decode HEVC a bit, but it's not stable (CPU has no power to decode and appearently the HEVC decoder implementation is incomplete). I've not tried latest VLC yet.

Ok, it shows.
Index PID Type Language Details 0x00d2 / 210 PCR 0x0101 / 257 PMT 1 0x00d2 / 210 HEVC 2 0x00dc / 220 AAC-LATM
I guess it's something with VLC. But I have on a rather fast Win7 PC.

Did a quick test with ExMplayer (win 7) also. No video or audio. It's running according to tvh but ExMplayer just buffer... But the HEVC test file, 4096x1720 plays fine.

The Open-HEVC fork of ffplay was able to play the BBC UHD tests on DVB-T2 (DVB Viewer was able to record them) last summer during the World Cup and Commonwealth Games. Quad Core i7-2600K overlocked to 4GHz was dropping frames, but the decoding was fully present (though I guess the BBC may have been using only a subset of the available HEVC toolset) ffmpeg was able to transcode them to H264 for viewing on H264-friendly devices.

Ok. Have not tested ffplay. Did some logging in VLC. I guess PID type=36 is HEVC but it's seems to be unknown for VLC...

Upgraded to (nightly builds) VLC 3.0 and it seems to work. Now both audio and video. However a lot of dropping frames even if the CPU usage is only 35%.

VLC 3.0 show some signs of life for me but its like a slide show. Looks like it is stuck in 1 thread, any tips?
RE: UHD 28.2E - Added by Bengt Madeberg over 9 years ago
Yes, correct, it doesn't work very well. I downloaded the Astra UHD video but have not found any player that can play it correctly. If it's the player or my PC, I don't know...
RE: UHD 28.2E - Added by Rob D over 9 years ago
MPC-HC 1.7.8 can play the stream perfectly on my setup. I just save the M3U from TVHeadend and drag it into MPC-HC.
CPU use is heavy is varies between using between 25% and 60% on my HT-Enabled [email protected].
Edit: Remove 10% from those CPU figures, forgot I had DOTA running in the background.
RE: UHD 28.2E - Added by Bengt Madeberg over 9 years ago
Yes it works with MPC. I have a [email protected] GHz but it goes up to 100% and the frame rate is around 35. So my PC is too slow...
