Tvheadend

I'm new to these forums, so let me start by saying hello everyone!

I'm trying TVheadend in combination with XBMC and I'm happy so far. I'm planning to start a project involving watching and recording TV, so I wonder if you guys have an API or documentation to access and control every aspect of TVheadend programmatically, from channel setup and scanning to scheduling and recording. I want the end user to never have to access the web interface. Is that possible at all?
